Caroline Eden is a writer contributing to the travel, food and arts pages of The Guardian, The Times Literary Supplement, BBC and elsewhere. Her latest book, 'Red Sands - Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia, from Hinterland to Heartland' (Quadrille, 2020), won the André Simon Award 2020 for best food book and was a 'book of the year' for The New Yorker, Sunday Times, Daily Mail and Financial Times. 'Black Sea - Dispatches and Recipes through Darkness and Light' (Quadrille, 2018) won the prestigious 2020 Art of Eating Prize, the John Avery Award at the André Simon Awards, Best Travel and Food Book of the Year at the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards and Best Food Book at the Guild of Food Writers Awards 2019. It was shortlisted for best food book at the Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink 2019 Awards and for a James Beard award. In the media, Black Sea was included in both spring and summer 2019 'best reads' in the New York Times and in the Financial Times Best Food Books of the Year. Her first book, 'Samarkand - recipes and stories from Central Asia and the Caucasus (Kyle Books, 2016), was a Guardian book of the year 2016 and it went on to win the Guild of Food Writers Food and Travel award in 2017. Specialising in the former Soviet Union she has recorded stories from Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Russia, Kyrgyzstan Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Haiti and Bangladesh for BBC Radio 4's From Our Own Correspondent and has spoken to audiences about her adventures at the Financial Times Weekend Festival, Royal Geographical Society, Asia House, Stanfords and the Frontline Club. www.carolineeden.com @edentravels
