Born in Yorkshire, Carol Townend was schooled by nuns in Whitby before studying history at Royal Holloway College, London. She has written 24 atmospheric romances, all set in England and Europe. When Carol started writing, she began by setting her stories in the medieval era and has gradually moved forward in time. Her latest book is set in 1720: Versailles, Cornwall and London. Her current WIP is set at the dawn of the millennium in 1999. Carol's first novel, Sapphire in the Snow, won the RNA New Writers' Award and two other novels have been shortlisted for the RoNA Rose Award. Her non-fiction writing includes dozens of articles for Writing Magazine and Writers' News, and a portrait of the Romanovs which introduces family portraits from the Imperial albums.
