Bradford Smith is a studio jeweler, lapidary, and workshop instructor based in Santa Monica, California, USA. Following a career in industrial automation, robotics and CAD, he began teaching Advanced Jewellery in the Los Angeles school system for eight years. In 2009, he designed and built a new jewelry facility at the Santa Monica Adult Education Center where he taught beginning and advanced classes for another eight years. He continues to share his love of jewelry fabrication in a series of popular online workshops. Brad is a long-time member of the Culver City Rock Club. He has led field trips, polished stones, taught lapidary skills, organized gem & mineral shows, and held many positions including President. He is a member of the Metal Arts Society of Southern California and enjoys photography, scuba diving, writing and public speaking. Smith's Step-by-Step article on broom casting was published in the inaugural issue of "Jewelry Artist" magazine, and his series of five books in jewelry skills development comes from his years of teaching hundreds of students. He has also published an award winning, humorous memoir about how as a city boy he got married and moved to a Virginia farm where dealing with his new wife's crazy rescue animals almost did him in.
