Married to Paula for forty-seven years, Bob is a father, grandfather and great grandfather to a total of nine children. "The Gate in the Fence" is Bob's first book, and it took him twelve years to write. Having just left a job and having a business purchase fall through, he had to find something to do. The decision to write a book was made. Having no experience at all, he searched for all the advice he could get. He had the start of a rough storyline but no complete plan and certainly no ending. The book was only a few chapters old when Bob was diagnosed with an aggressive B cell lymphoma cancer. Ten months of cancer treatment and with a 50/50 chance of beating it, he came out the other side. There were three years of no writing at all and it seemed the book would never see the light of day. However, spurts of creativity and endeavour saw it progress and a COVID lockdown was the catalyst for getting it finished. Bob was recently asked for a one sentence description of the book. His reply, "Fifty Shades of Grey on steroids!!!"
