Bob Dotson has been in more motel rooms than the Gideon Bible, crisscrossing this country, four million miles, practically non-stop, for forty years, searching for people who are practically invisible, the ones who change our lives, but don’t take time to Tweet and tell us about it. His long running series, "The American Story with Bob Dotson," was a regular feature on the TODAY Show for 40 years, winning 11 National Emmys. He is one of the most honored storytellers of our time.  Dotson's reporting and storytelling have earned 120 awards around the world.  They include top honors from the Kennedy Center, DuPont Columbia and a record six Edward R. Murrow Awards for Best Network News Writing.   He is now a New York Times Best Selling author and writes a daily blog which The Society of Professional Journalists cited as the “best in new media.” Dotson's literary works have won the Christopher Award for outstanding non-fiction and a George Washington Honor Medal for excellence in storytelling. Dotson continues producing documentaries.  He was he writer and host of “Bob Dotson's America,” a series of half-hour programs on the Travel Channel. His NBC production, “El Capitan’s Courageous Climbers,” won seven International Film Festivals and documentary's highest honor, the CINE Grand Prize.   Over the years, Dotson saved more than six thousand original story tapes, whenever his bosses, looking to save space, tossed them out. For half a century, they were maintained at his own expense in air-conditioned rooms -- first in his basement then, as the collection grew, in warehouses. During the Covid pandemic, Dotson digitized the entire collection. NBC allowed him to donate that archive to Syracuse University.
