Antonio Musarra (1983) is associate professor of Medieval History at "Sapienza" University of Rome. Graduate in History at the University of Genoa (2007) and in Religious Sciences at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences in Genoa (2012), graduate in Archivistics, Paleography and Diplomatics at the State Archives of Genoa (2012), holds a PhD in Historical Sciences from the University of San Marino with a thesis on Genoese participation in the Crusader movement and on the political, economic and cultural relations between Genoa and the Holy Land in the 13th century (2012). Ahmanson Fellow 2016-2017 at Villa I Tatti (Harvard University), research fellow at the University of Florence (2017-2018), adjunct professor of Paleography at the University of Sassari (2017-2018), has to his credit extensive participation in national and international conferences, at which he has presented the results of his own research, focused on the political, institutional and economic history of the Genoese Middle Ages (with particular regard to Mediterranean expansion), the history of Italian participation in the Crusader movement, the history of navigation and naval warfare in the late medieval Mediterranean, and the history of travel and pilgrimage in the medieval age.
