Andrew Altschul is the author of the novels "The Gringa" (2020), "Deus Ex Machina" (2011), and "Lady Lazarus" (2008). He is a prize-winning short story writer and essayist, whose work has been published in many journals as well as anthologies including "Best New American Voices," "Best American Nonrequired Reading," and "O. Henry Prize Stories." In 2016, he co-authored, with Mark Slouka, an open letter opposing the Trump campaign, which was signed by 472 writers, including ten Pulitzer Prize winners. The letter led to an online petition that received 25,000 signatures. A former Wallace Stegner Fellow and Jones Lecturer at Stanford, Altschul has received fellowships from the Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writers Conferences, the Ucross Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center. He is a contributing editor at the literary journal Zyzzyva and currently directs the creative writing program at Colorado State University, in Fort Collins. Visit him at www.andrewaltschul.com.
