My 2020 release of the second (updated) edition of "Timefall" is available as a Kindle ebook and also in print form. Regina artist Sandra Norman created its gorgeous cover.
"Timefall's" premise? ---- What would you do if you're a teen mom (and psychic - but don't know it?) and your baby is psychic too, and the long-prophesied hero of a civilization a thousand years in the future, long after a cataclysmic ozone layer collapse? What if you happen to fall into that world, with no warning whatsoever? Now, on the other hand, what would you do as the last in a long line of Seers - but your Sight is flawed, and everybody fears your unruly powers? Will you be able to save your dwindling population by summoning the infant T'laaure from the ancient, doomed past? The first edition of "Timefall", now out of print, was a finalist for the 2019 Prix Aurora Award, Young Adult category.
To date I've published 26 books for children and teens with Canadian, New Zealand and Australian publishers. Many of my books have been finalists for various Canadian and international awards, and a couple have been winners, most notably "This Land We Call Home" (published by Pearson Education New Zealand) which won the 2008 Saskatchewan Book Award for Young Adult Literature. "This Land We Call Home" addresses the forced relocation of Japanese American citizens to distant desert camps during World War II. Next to appear in print, sometime in 2021, is my fifth picture book, "The 1-Dogpower Garden Team" - illustrated by my cousin Gretchen Ehrsam (who also illustrated "Leaving Mr. Humphries") to be published by Your NIckel's Worth Publishing.
I've done a thousand or so author presentations at schools, libraries and conferences, have taught writing; served as Writer-in-Residence at Regina Public Library; and have done a bit of editing too.
I've been writing for as long as I can remember, and was first published at the age of 12. Born and raised in Central California, I moved to Canada in 1971, and hold dual citizenship. I belong to a number of writers' groups - with some awesome people, all of us on this same journey. I live in Regina, Saskatchewan with my dog Sebastian and two finches, love to travel, and play several musical instruments for the fun of it.
