Ali Gilkeson is an author, performer and speaker with a sharp wit and an imaginative flair. She traveled the world playing music and sharing stories with the band Rend Collective for 12 years, performing to millions. While an onstage personality by night she also raised her 3 kids “on the road” since 6 weeks of age, whether on tour buses, airplanes or venue parking lots. She has the rare ability to make anything work. Ali grew up in Northern Ireland into a time of conflict and uncertainty, a childhood of always looking over your shoulder but also learning to laugh in the middle of the chaos. It's clear that Ali is not your average Irish girl, she is uniquely funny and is often always ready with a sarcastic comment or joke, which was essential growing up with 2 brothers and then touring with 5 boys in the band. She has always been obsessed with writing stories and performing plays, especially ones with that classic Irish wit, ones that make you laugh hard but then challenge you to reach for something more. As a gifted communicator, she started traveling around Ireland as a speaker in her early twenties, taking any chance she could to encourage and embolden the young people she met. Ali’s debut kids’ book “My Lighthouse” was inspired by the platinum selling song released from Rend Collective in 2014. With popularity of the song, Ali soon realized she could use her skills of storytelling and humor to write a book that would bring the story of the Lighthouse alive, and have it illustrated in such a whimsical way that both adults and kids could love and enjoy together. A story that would connect the family and encourage and challenge children to think beyond themselves. Whether you’re 6 or 16 or 60, Ali believes story time should be enjoyed by all and creating a connection point for everyone who is gathered around her work is the heartbeat behind her writing. Ali currently lives in Nashville TN with her family and is the kind of woman who makes jokes that most people don’t expect, tells captivating stories like you’re round the campfire and is deeply passionate about raising good humans.
