Alexander Lapin is a celebrated Russian writer and publicist. He first became known as the special correspondent in Kazakhstan for one of the largest Russian newspapers Komsomolskaya Pravda. When the USSR began to disintegrate, Alexander Lapin moved to Moscow where in a short space of time he advanced from correspondent to become one of the executives of Komsomolskaya Pravda. In 2000, his life changed dramatically when he left Moscow for the provinces to found his own publishing company which was to become the largest media holding in Central Russia. He was also elected as a member of the regional parliament. In recent years he has retired from public service and business. Instead he has dedicated his time to literary and social activities. He is the Director of the Voronezh branch of the Russian Peace Foundation. For more than 10 years Alexander Lapin has been the author and presenter of a television programme entitled The Russian Question. His books have been published in Russia and Germany. Alexander Lapin is a laureate of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation, the national award for The Best Books and Publishing Houses, and the V. Pikul International Prize.
