Abimbola "Abby" Olurin Dames is a corporate wife and toddler mom with a master level background in psychology. Originally from the Bahamas, residing in Austin, Texas, Abby is strongly committed to promoting diversity with respect to culture, ethnicity and gender. This stands particularly true for young readers. She firmly believes that representation matters. Through fun adventures, Abby shows us Sola's world while giving little ones the opportunity to learn their first words. Abby is committed to crafting engaging, educational, and entertaining books for young readers to encourage a lifelong love of story time. Ethnic socialization promotes children’s cultural and ethnic pride. Abby's collections give parents another mechanism to transmit information, values, and perspectives about ethnicity and race to their children, particularly Black and African American children. Abby's children's books give young readers an opportunity, and a reminder, to feel valued, respected, accepted and encouraged to fully participate. Abby also provides Diversity and Inclusion communications, operational support, and training for a multi-billion dollar global payments technology company. She believes in challenging the status quo by creating, communicating and delivering offerings that have value. In Abby’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Will, and their daughter, Sola. She also loves going home to the Bahamas as well as other Caribbean countries for vacations and Carnival festivals. With her husband, she founded and controls marketing for the company Shi’dor, a comprehensive costume design house and wholesaler offering products, consulting, and luxurious couture costumes for carnivals all over the world.
