Abeer Y. Hoque is a Nigerian born Bangladeshi American writer and photographer. She is the author of a memoir, "Olive Witch" (Harper360 2017, HarperCollins India 2016), a linked story collection, "The Lovers and the Leavers" (HarperCollins India 2015, Bengal Lights Books 2014), and a monograph, "The Long Way Home" (Ogro Bangladesh 2013). She is the recipient of a 2018 Queens Arts Grant, a 2014 NYFA grant, a 2012 NEA Literature Fellowship, a 2007 Fulbright Scholarship, and the 2005 Tanenbaum Award, and has received fellowships to attend residencies at Sacatar, Saltonstall, SLS St. Petersburg, VCCA, Millay, and Albee. Her writing and photography have been published in Guernica, ZYZZYVA, Elle, Outlook Traveller, 580 Split, India Today, the Daily Star, Catapult, and the Commonwealth Short Story Competition, among others. She has BS and MA degrees from University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, an MFA in writing from the University of San Francisco, and she has held two solo photography exhibitions.
