As one YouTube follower wrote: No one makes the connections that a Friend of Medjugorje makes. Remaining anonymous because of a message given to him from the Virgin Mary through Medjugorje visionary Marija, in which the Virgin Mary told him to live in humility, a Friend of Medjugorje originally began to write anonymously in 1986, but eventually was given the name, "Friend of Medjugorje" through TAN Publishing. In a subsequent private message through Marija from the Virgin Mary in 1988, a Friend of Medjugorje was told that She, the Virgin Mary, would make him understand certain things. He credits his insight about Medjugorje and the world to a grace from God. Born on April 24, 1953, in Birmingham, Alabama, to parents Tony and Mary Ellen, the founder of Caritas, also known as a Friend of Medjugorje was raised in a very strong Italian Catholic family. His parents instilled in him strong work ethics. Love of their Italian heritage and the Catholic faith filled their lively home. Mary Ellen would bake bread for the local parish priest and have it delivered by her sons every Friday to the Church rectory. A Friend of Medjugorje recounts riding in the car with his mother, carrying a loaf of freshly baked bread, still hot, wrapped in a towel. He lived just minutes away from the civil rights riots in Birmingham. These sights and smells of real life, being first-hand witness to many events, doing charitable acts and working hard, propelled a Friend of Medjugorje into the world of business, while at the same time, keeping a strong Catholic faith. After starting the organization Caritas of Birmingham in 1986 to spread Catholicism, a Friend of Medjugorje became involved in Medjugorje, where it was reported that the Virgin Mary was appearing to six youth. He quickly focused the energy and mission of Caritas, which he was funding from his business, to be solely devoted to Medjugorje. Feeling the call to give up his business and dedicate his life completely to Medjugorje, the mission of Caritas, which he still directs, became the largest international mission dedicated to Medjugorje. A Friend of Medjugorje writes about every topic, with a worldview based in the Medjugorje messages. Whether the topic is the Church, family and marriage, the economy, politics, history, etc., every topic is viewed 360 degrees from the Medjugorje messages. A Friend of Medjugorje is especially known for the international bestsellers, They Fired the First Shot 2012, and Look What Happened While You Were Sleeping, as well as It Ain't Gonna Happen: A Return to Truth.
