5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book

This was such a fun, interesting read. The author has such a way with dialogue and her characters pop to life. The story is such a delightfully queer take on the Dracula mythos. I found it difficult to put the book down, always wanting to see what happened next. The sex scenes were maybe a tad bit gratuitous at some points for a book that otherwise was everything I wanted in an lgbt YA vampire novel, but otherwise I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was one of the most fun and interesting reads I've had in a long time

So I don't know what I was expecting going into this novel, but I know whatever it was I got it and then some. This was one of the most fun and interesting reads I've had in a long time. Cute high school romance? Check. Vampire mystery? Check. Horror movie suspense? Yep. Witty dialogue and fun characters? Definitely (well, the two leads at least, there's not too much of a supporting cast worth mentioning but it works so I'm not complaining).

Ex-Wives of Dracula reads like the wonderfully insane love child of a cute coming of age romance novel and Jennifer's Body or All Cheerleaders Die. The dialogue flows wonderfully and feels really authentic, the narration matches the tone of the dialogue perfectly, and the frequent pop culture references never feel forced or out of place and really feel true to an 18 year old lesbian living in 2016. The horror elements are played spectacularly, the tension and suspense start building well before there's any reason for the characters to actually be afraid, and once the vampire mystery starts to unfold it's fantastic being just as in the dark as Mindy is right until the last second.

I'm going to do my best to avoid spoilers, but I do need to say that once all the pieces fell into place in this story I really was blown away. I knew after a few chapters I was going to love this book just from how well the writing flowed and how much I liked the characters, but looking at the story as a whole knowing the whole plot beginning to end it really becomes apparent just how smart and well put together this novel is.

This novel is more than it seems. Leave your expectations at the door and hang on for the ride. Whether you want a cute and heartfelt love story, crazy vampire shenanigans, a fun horror movie mystery, or just want to read something you really haven't read before - this novel won't disappoint.

My fiancee and I read this book on road trips over the course of a couple of months. We finished it sometime last year, and I think about it pretty often. Like right now, when I checked to make sure that we had reviewed it -- ALAS! We had not! Let me rectify that mistake.

Ex-Wives of Dracula is probably one of my favorite queer-lady reads ever. The characters are to die for. Mindy is lovely. Lucia is EVERYTHING (some people have mentioned in reviews that she is over-the-top, but I strongly disagree: she is PERFECT -- snarky, witty, sexual. Above all, she is layered and interesting as hell.)

The thing I can agree with from other reviewers is the pacing. The first third or so of the book was interesting but slow. We weren't entirely convinced that there were even really going to be vampires involved at all -- until suddenly there were! The suspense at that point, the character discoveries and development -- top notch! But getting there dragged along a tiny bit. Still immensely enjoyable, but I can't help but wish there had been an editor willing to tighten up the whole thing just a touch.

I also have to take a line to say this: there were moments when I felt uncomfortable reading this, moments that were super hot, moments that were suspenseful and intense, moments that were lovely and 'awwww'-inducing. This book brings forth ALL of the emotions. Nicely done.

Really, really loved this book. The ending was everything we could have possibly hoped for. Very enjoyable read that we will probably revisit in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny to the end. Christopher Moore meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

If you enjoy the sample I think you'll enjoy the book even more. Good, funny coming of age vampire romance.

Since this is categorized as YA, readers may not be expecting the explicit sex scenes later on in the book. Not usual for YA, but I realize books are often categorized as YA against the author's intent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and Refreshingly Original

I absolutely loved this! Though charmingly filled with classic vampire tropes, this book is both outrageously funny and refreshingly current. A blending of the movie Jennifer's Body and the classic vampire tale Carmilla, this book has enough twists and turns (not to mention some wonderfully steamy scenes) to keep the reader on edge until the end. It abounds with so many pop culture references that it makes my fangirl heart happy, and the dialogue is so fast paced and witty it's like a Gilmore Girls episode on lesbian steroids. I very much look forward to what this author produces next!

Fun, clever, nerdy but in an accessible, relatable way. It was way too easy to spend a whole day reading this book. Biting humor, see what I did there, coupled with not taking itself to seriously while simultaneously blending pop culture lore with a greater mythology will leave most readers satisfied. If you're the kind of person, who doesn't enjoy laughing and gore in equal measure, this book isn't for you...and you should never be given the talking shell during a discussion. I guess you'll have to read the book to get that reference.

First off, I hate vampires. No I'm thinking I hate moody vamps. Meet a vamp that will still ur heart with laughter. this book is fill with quick wit, passion and down right goofy ass characters. I adored everything about it. It's like wanting a cheeseburger and finally getting one with perfection in the buns. I listen to a new book every night at work. This year so far, I can say it's number one. Great job. So worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite Erotic and very funny

I wasn't quite sure about purchasing this book, as the blurb as it is is a bit misleading and didn't quite persuade me, especially with such a relatively high price for an ebook from a completely unknown author. But i played the gamble and i did absolutely not regret it. Unlike the title might suggest, the story itself has nothing to do with Dracula, apart from using a lot of names as a kind of shout-out to the original (Lucia West as the turned Vampiress, Mina as her human friend, and the whole thing is set in a Neighbourhood called Carfax for some examples). The story itself is a nicely written Girl/Girl Romance, and the Vampire Aspects, which play quite a center role, are interesting, as Miss Kaplan wildly mixes the vampiric Abilities and Drawbacks of both older (Dracula, Hammer films) and newer (Twilight) kinds of Vampires, with just a bit of an original twist added on top. And while this all added up to a pleasant read so far, what really made the book for me was the Humor, which is quite dry and at times goes quite far into Nerd Humor territory. There was one exemplary Joke in the middle of the book which came totally out of left field and had me laughing out loud for a solid five minutes.

So yeah, this book has steamy Girl/Girl Romance, interesting Vampire mechanics and a lot of Humour. If those are your kind of pleasures, i can
absolutely recommend this Book, and if Miss Kaplan writes any more of this Story, or anything else really, i will not hesitate to buy those as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Skurille, lustige und spannende YA Vampir Geschichte
