One of the best books I've held and read since.............. Anna-Lou Weatherley knocked this one out of the park and further. You must read this. So much of a thrill. Good job. Pass it on afterwards. It shouldn't sit on anyone's shelf.
The first twist was finding out about the victim. She was a real peach, wasn't she? Yikes.
Next were all the twists and turns and lies coming from EVERYBODY.
I will never understand why someone wouldn't tell the cops whatever they know when someone dies. Yet, they do. They claim ignorance and some weird taboo of "not speaking ill of the dead". The answers would come a lot quicker if people just spoke up.
Well that's never gonna happen.
And if it did, we wouldn't have stories like this one.
Excellent mystery. Good villian.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
Not sure I agree with what Dan did, or Evie if she realized. Obviously, the villian is still a future danger to others.
Follows the formula for these "totally unputdownable thrillers!!!", but very quick, easy and enjoyable read. I figured out the killer at 25% read, but that's not necessarily reflective of the writing, just that I read too many of these damn books and know how they usually introduce the culprit.
I could not put this down, really well written, what a page turner! I am going to read all of Anna Lou Weatherleys books, she's a great author, this is my second book and now am buying a third! So enjoyable!
Yikes! This book took me on a rollercoaster ride! When I thought the killer was one person it was another. Oh what tangled web of deceit we humans can make with our lives! This is definitely a page turner. Kind of starts out slow, with a Sherlock Holmes type of narration, but then takes off and becomes a one heck of a ride!
I love this book it was such a good read I couldn't put it down. Each page just gets better. I've read other books by this author and they're all so good.
Wow! I loved this gripping, absolutely brilliantly plotted book and literally could not put it down until I'd finished.
Part psychological thriller, part police procedural, a combination I felt worked really well, the story begins with a young girl, Libby, disappearing during a dinner party. Libby's parents, Evie and Tom, are obviously completely distraught. How could their beautiful, well behaved, intelligent daughter suddenly go missing?
What sounds like a simple plot, begins to build and build, secrets and lies are all of a sudden exposed and Evie and Tom are forced to face the devastating truth that Libby may not be the sweet, obedient, perfect daughter she appeared to be.
I felt the characters were cleverly written and whilst they weren't all likeable, they all had real depth and believability. I especially felt for Evie and her desperate longing to discover the truth about what happened to Libby. I also really warmed to the police characters, especially Dan and Lucy, and look forward to continue following their stories in the author's future novels.
The twists and turns in this book kept coming and just as you think you have it figured out, the author throws in another curveball! I did guess the final twist here, but it took nothing away from the story for me.
All I can say is, you have to read this book! Most definitely highly recommended. I can't wait for Anna-Lou's next book.
Thanks to author, Anna-Lou Weatherley, publishers Bookouture and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I don't know why I didn't realize this is Book 5 in a series but it is. Luckily it didn't affect my enjoyment of the book; in fact this can definitely be read as a standalone.
The title of this book misled me because the "party" was actually just 4 people having dinner at one of the couples' houses. I think I was expecting it to be a larger party with shades of Agatha Christie in the unfolding story. Eve, the hostess, starts worrying because she hasn't heard from her 17-year-old daughter who went to meet a friend to go to a concert in town. The story goes back and forth in time as well as from the viewpoints of various characters but I think it's best to go into the book not knowing a lot about the plot. I was expecting a quick superficial read without having to tax my brain but the story actually had a lot of depth to it as well as some great characters. I plan to look into some of the previous books in the series. Highly recommended! 3.5 stars rounded up!
I purchased the Kindle version of this book from amazon.ca so I guess I own it!
Oh what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive! This is book 5 in the Dan Riley series & I can honestly say this is the best series of books I've ever read. This is a wonderfully written & intriguing story. Highly recommend. Just about to start book 6 now.
This is one book that I did not want to put down. As you progress through the story you are convinced the you know who is the guilty person, but you will be wrong. I was kept guessing until the last 3/4 pages and was very surprised. An author to follow. I have just purchased a further two of her books.
