Read book 1, it was amazing.
Book 2 in even more horrifying with so much going on and hauntings. Perron Manor is definitely haunted, but Halloween night brings out the ghost and goblins literally.

This was really scarrier than the first book. Things began to happen quickly. From there it was a thrill ride dragging you along whether you wanted to go or not. You won't want to put it down so grab a blanket and hang on.

5.0 out of 5 stars I recommend you read this book before Book 1

I'll start by saying I am glad I didn't give up after the first book because this one was much better than the first one. It was a much more well-rounded and immersive storyline that didn't leave huge story gaps just so he could make the sequel! So, if you can get through the first one, this one is definitely recommended. In fact, I'd read this one first if I were you.
The one thing I love about this author is that he tells the story through whatever character is having the experience, which makes it so much more immersive. Even though it doesn't ground and invest you entirely in a main character that way, but I actually prefer his style.
My minor-ish issues with this book was that there are no sexual or majorly graphic scenes, and then, all of a sudden, you are blindsided by it, or at least I was. The other issue I had was that I was invested in and rooting for Ray and his wife, and let's just say it did end favorably. I also wish we could have gotten to know Victor a little bit more. Other than that, I really liked this book and recommended it.

*I'm not going to give you the 'what this book is about' blurb - you can read that for yourself.

1. I am LOVING how this series is completely told about the same house, just different times in its history. I feel like it's such a different way to do a haunted house story.
2. Marcus Blackwater is a creep and I'll be surprised if this is the last we see of him!
3. The imagery of this series is just so good. I want so badly to visit a home like this...or do I?! Every single one I ever read or see on TV is haunted. While I love to read about a good scare, I don't particularly think the way this book culminated sounds like fun to experience in person.

Good series so far. It was a fairly slow story at the beginning. However, the ending made it worth it, and I enjoy how it ties to book1 of this series. Now on to book 3!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another solid book from Lee Mountford
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 5, 2021

Devils Door is the second installment of Lee Mountford's Haunted Series. In this book, we go back to the 82' Halloween Massacre at The Blackwater Hotel. The events of that night have been briefly mentioned in book 1 and 1.5 but have always been a mystery... until now.

We follow Chloe's Parents Rita and Ray who have a life saving offer to run the Blackwater hotel that's currently run by Marcus Blackwater, a mysterious and odd individual who has a taste for the darker things in life. here we get to see the characters that were mentioned in the first book, including a young Uncle Vincent.

Once again, the characters in this book are definitely one of the strongest points. I've always been a reader that needs that connection with the characters or its simply not going to work. I instantly took a liking to Rita who i reminded me so much of a grown up Chloe from the first book. Ray is a bit more reserved but I think he may have been my favourite character. He's a no bullshit kind of guy who just wants an easy life with his family which unfortunately Is not what he gets with The Blackwater Hotel. I also found that there was a bit more info about the ghosts trapped in the house and also the history behind the house similar to book 1.5 which was interesting. It's weird to say that the house feels like a character but it really does. It takes on a life of its own and becomes a deadly force not to be taken lightly.

Although I absolutely loved the first book. I found Devils Door to be much more scary and fun to read at the same time, than the previous books. The whole build up to Halloween was so tense and I found myself absolutely devouring the book. Mountford definitely has a way of playing with the readers emotions and I found myself going from anger towards characters to pure terrified at times. The actual event on Halloween may be one of the most explosive and creepiest scenes I've ever read in any book. Its so well written that you feel feel like you're there with the characters and the house has you in a iron tight grip that refuses to let go.

Without giving any spoilers away. Devils Door had a twist that I don't think anyone seen coming at the beginning. It's left me absolutely craving the next book!

Im pretty new to the Horror genre but the Haunted series by Lee Mountford is one I would recommend to all readers that have an interest in the Horror genre. It's a classic tale of a haunted house that has a special and unique twist that will captivate anyone who reads it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gory and spooky!

I enjoy a good haunted house story and, this tale was no exception. However, the final showdown was just too gory for my taste and stopped me awarding the book a full five star rating. This tale was a different take on a traditional haunted house story, in that the house itself was the controlling entity. A portal to Hell no less! A very enjoyable book and well worth reading

4.0 out of 5 stars Back story of book 1

This tells the story of Chloe's parents and their own history of Perron Manor. The massacre was talked about in book 1 but this tells how it happened. A page turner as you delve into the power of the house and it's history as it controls several of it's occupants all to some end game of it's own.
