2.0 out of 5 stars Something From Tiffany’s - Melissa Hill
Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2023
⭐️⭐️ This is labeled as a romance/romantic comedy but I’m not sure how they were able to classify it as that. There was no romance or comedy that I read. It was repetitive &contained a lot of fluffy. I’ve never skimmed a book before, I usually read every word on the page. After 50% of the way through I skimmed &only read the dialog &I’m glad I did. Before I was skimming, I would read one set of dialog &by the time the response came I’d have to go back &read what the first question was since there was so much fluffy. If you enjoy young adult “romance” than this book is for you.

I was in the mood for a good Christmas story book and ordered this one. It was good and held my interest and did not end up like I thought it would. I enjoyed it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok book

Found this book to be ok. Ethan is a widower with a small child. He met a woman he wants to propose to when they go on vacation to NYC over Christmas. When he and his daughter are leaving the store however the bag with the ring gets switched with that of another man who bought his girlfriend an inexpensive bracelet.

This leads Ethan and his daughter to find out what happened to the ring and his girlfriend to be mad at him because it was supposed to be a romantic vacation. The guy who took the ring didnt know until his girlfriend found it and he pretends that he bought it. Ethan eventually tracks them down and the girlfriend has a hard time believing that her boyfriend would do that to her.

The part that I had a hard time with was the ending. While usually I dont have a problem with everyone having a happily ever after I wanted something different for the guy who took the ring and lied the whole book about it. Didnt seem fair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical love story!!

This was my first book from Melissa Hill and I couldn't put it down. This book is a true definition of chefs kiss! Although most of it was predictable she still threw a few curve balls that I wasn't anticipating. I LOVED Daisy's character, she was very mature for her age since she was growing up without a mother. If you haven't read this book yet you need to!

Very predictable and the chasing seemed to go on too long. It was an easy read, though, and did not require any thinking

3.0 out of 5 stars Tiffany's

Not my normal type of book to read, I usually go for mysteries/murder. I decided for a change of direction. I would not recommend this book to a third party, as I found it quite slow and by the middle of the book you could see where all this was heading. I would have preferred if it had a twist to it to catch you off guard, but this was not forthcoming.

It was a bit formulaic but was just what I was looking for to get me in the Christmas spirit. If anything, you'll be inspired to visit Tiffany's and other iconic New York sights in December.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed this.

I enjoyed this very much. It was just the right thing for the run up to Christmas. It did keep me wondering how things would get resolved. The only thing I didn't like was the epilogue. I didn't want that pairing. Other than that, a very enjoyable, light read.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's nothing like the movie but it's worth it.

The book and the movie are two completely different universes. While the movie is indeed a romantic, magical and heartwarming Christmas story, this book is a comfortable, jolly, messy adventure.

At times the story got a bit too drawn out for me and the pairing, in the end, is a little disappointing, most of because of the lacking of character development and breaking of expectations. Actually, for me, the biggest problem was not enhancing the atmosphere behind the characters' interests in each other. I guess the author wanted to give more context of the character's own feelings and thoughts as a little plot twist, what happens, but things get sorted too down the line, and unfortunately, it didn't captivate me enough to fall for their love story as in the movie.

Besides those particularities, I overall really enjoyed the reading. It's a very light, charming book to take your mind off reality. I have to say it's also quite intriguing. From the middle to the end, I couldn't stop reading because I was getting more and more interested in discovering how the story would be resolved, as each chapter created more layers to it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Takes a while to get going

I was looking for some light reading over Christmas and came across this in the back log of books I haven't read and decided to give it a go.

The book is told from a number of different perspectives - focusing mainly on 2 key characters - Ethan and Rachael - and their relationships with various other characters.

Ethan is a literary professor from Engalnd, in New York with his daughter and girlfriend (Vanessa) for Christmas and hoping to propose with "something from Tiffany's". However when he stops to help a man hit by a cab on Christmas eve, things don't quite go to plan.

Rachael is on holiday in New York with her boyfriend Gary when he gets hit by a cab on Christmas eve. However she finds a very nice Christmas present in his shopping bags - a ring she thinks is for her.

The main portion of the book is then about Ethans struggle to get the ring back and Rachael's surprise engagement and the impact it has on her friends. This was where I found the book frustrating - it seemed to go on forever and I felt like I wanted to just shake a number of the characters for being so stupid.

My biggest problem with this book is that I found the characters almost too extreme - Ethan was too nice, Gary was too much of a loser - you couldn't understand why Rachael was with him. Rachael was too forgiving of Gary's flaws etc. And although the book did redeem itself on some of these points - for me it was too close to the end before that happened.

Overall an ok read for on a plane or on a sun lounger - it didn't grab me though and there are much better books out there in the same genre - try the Dating Detox by Gemma Burgess. There was a definite twist at the end which I did enjoy but I'm not sure it was worth reading the rest of the book to get there.

5.0 out of 5 stars When a blue Tiffany's bag provides surprises

Picture the scene, you're exchanging gifts with the woman you were planning to propose to and instead of her looking at the expensive ring that you had picked out for her, she is instead looking at the charm bracelet that Gary had purchased for his girlfriend Rachel.

Ethan realises that the mix-up happened when he and daughter Daisy were good samaritan's and helped out when Gary was knocked down by a taxi. He realises that in the aftermath the bags must have been switched so he tries to make contact with Gary to arrange to swap back.

Meanwhile, Gary's girlfriend finds the Tiffany's bag whilst he is in hospital and couldn't resist peeking and after seeing the ring she thinks he's going to propose. When he's released they exchange gifts and he's shocked into proposing to Rachel when he sees the ring. He decides not to look a gift horse in the mouth and decides that although he hadn't planned on proposing he could do worse. At this stage of the book I could really have swung for Gary as he certainly comes across as a bit of a jack the lad. Meanwhile, Rachel seems like the put upon girlfriend which I did struggle somewhat to relate to especially as she is described as being someone who is a sucessful Bistro owner.

The rest of the book deals with Ethan trying to contact Gary to arrange for a swap back of the gifts especially as daughter Daisy is blaming herself as she was the one holding the bag in the first place.

So will Gary own up to Rachel and give the ring back to Ethan and will they stay together afterwards?, does Ethan finally propose to his girlfriend Vanessa with the ring?, you'll have to read it for yourself to find out what happens next ...

5.0 out of 5 stars There is some Tiffany's Magic in the air!

This book was absolutely beautiful, so magical. I was already drawn to the book simply by it's title. When I started reading I was instantly hooked. You immediately fall in love with one of the main male leads and well dislike the other male. Reading the blurb you get a vague idea of what will happen, yet this book can still surprise you. I loved it soo much. I wouldn't definitely recommend it and I will be reading this book again. This book gave me a single gal some hope, and it has made me love the idea of a Tiffany's Ring even more! Also it makes me want to go to New York during Christmas too!

I definite must read! You will fall in love with it! I love some of the quotes too. Here is my favourite one:

"Bread- like real love- took time, cultivation, strong loving hands and patience. It lived, rising and growing to fruition only under the most perfect circumstances. If the water was too warm, it killed the yeast; too cool and the yeast was not inspired to grow the bread. Without enough sugar, the yeast would starve, leaving the bread flat and lifeless; if the air was not humid enough, the yeast could not spur the bread to reach its full potential."

That quote is absolutely beautiful and it will go into my favourite quotes book!

A must read!
