How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read for wherever you are on your journey to good health

I really enjoyed reading this book. I always prefer fiction over nonfiction as far as leisurely reading but there was so much valuable information in this book that I ate it all up (pun intended). I consider myself a healthy person - I exercise 6 days a week and my diet is generally very healthy. My coworkers constantly make comments about my lunches consisting of a protein, a green vegetable, and some rice. After reading this book I realized that there are a number of changes I can make to my diet. I have done so and to slight, but positive changes. I feel even better about the food I'm putting in my body.

I strongly believe that anybody could benefit from this book. From someone who doesn't think their diet could improve or someone who knows their diet needs improvement and needs a little bit of motivation to make those changes. This is not a book telling you that you need to eat kale or you will die. This book is chock full of information and studies showing the effects of making food decisions and how your body responds.

I highly recommend it to anyone who is even remotely interested. I bought copies for a number of people in my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars An uplifting approach to food

I loved this book – it's a shining example of how to write about food and wellness without slipping into the demoralizing, unhealthy language of diet culture. Every chapter made me crave a different whole food, and I can't wait to try the recipes sprinkled throughout. It's also very readable despite tackling the very complicated science of food and mental health.

Breezy, chatty, and written in short sentences. There is interesting information, especially in the third chapter, but the book lacks a train of thought.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening, informative, encouraging

Just finished reading this book and I LOVED it! Albright did such a great job making all the scientific lingo readable and understandable. And it left me feeling encouraged to add to my eating habits for the sake of pleasure and health, instead of thinking “man I should eat less xyz…”. I’m so excited for what all this research could mean for the medical field. I hope that it continues to become more mainstream!
I’m also hoping she puts out a companion cookbook in the future! The handful of recipes in this book were so simple, but all sounded delicious!

Inspiring and engaging. I have noticed the connection between food and mood for years and this book summed it up brilliantly.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Learned a Lot

If you’re looking for a light and fluffy ‘fix yourself with food’ book, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a traditional cookbook, this isn’t that, either. But if you really want to learn about how your body works and how food plays into your overall physical and mental health, this one’s a keeper.

While I gained a lot of knowledge from every section, the probiotics chapter was such an eye-opener for me. We’ve all heard of probiotics and can find plenty of sources for putting them into our bodies, but do we really understand what they are and what they do for us? Now I feel like I really understand what’s going on with them – and why they aren’t just a one-time, easy fix for what ails us.

The book concludes with suggested theme weeks – Microbiome, Inflammation (which includes ‘Breaditation’, the meditative art of making bread), Nutrients, and Pleasure. Spending a week focused on one aspect of nutrition and your body is a great way to learn, and make changes that can stay with you for the rest of your life.

My thanks to author Mary Beth Albright, W. W. Norton & Company and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital advance review copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.
