5.0 out of 5 starsAnother good read

Another good read from Anna Jacobs. I have all her books and they are so good I read them more than once
I now realise it’s time to stop reading Anna Jacob books, I’ve read every single one sometimes more than once .. but my goodness I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a ghost writer it’s the same old drivel boy meets girl instant love match few uninteresting bits of no consequence in between… Now on to find another author who wrote like Anna’s first many many books which were really good… If you haven’t read her before start with her first ones you won’t be disappointed… forget the past four maybe five last ones..
I have read most of Anna's books and although I have enjoyed them they do seem to be written to a very successful formula. There is usually a romance which may become doomed, some unpleasant threat brewing in the background, unpleasant characters who are determined to harm and eventually it all comes right in the end. The plot of 'Mara's Choice' is very thin and seems to have been rushed off. Some ends have been sloppily tied up and quite frankly I wonder if Anna is working too quickly in an effort to rush out another novel. Disappointing!
You always know what you're going to find in an Anna Jacobs novel, and this one is no exception. Having visited Australia including the area described in this book, l could just picture it. Sometimes l feel that Anna runs out of steam with some characters who are left in limbo or disposed of unsatisfactorily. However as this is the first in the series, maybe the "baddie" who wanted to buy one of the properties will have his back story explained in a bit more depth, although l suspect he has disappeared never to be heard of again. I admire Anna's ability to produce so many novels ,but sometimes they are very similar. Having said that, l daresay l will buy the next one !
From the description I was expecting a story with some substance to it, but this is not the case. It's a light read, with predictable outcomes. I have a lot of Anna's books and re-read some of them regularly. However, this one - like a lot of the recent ones unfortunately - is composed of her stock characters, plot themes and devices, mixed up and placed in a different location. Will not be looking for further books in the series.
