Like the other reviews, I got hooked & drawn in from the 1st Page! It's an Awesome book for all ages! It's about a magical place with an Epic Battle between the forces of Good & Evil. The central character is a girl on a mission for her father. Along the way, she meets new friends & together they become involved in this War. If The Hobbits & The Game of Thrones had a baby, it might just scratch the surface of the depth & breadth of this romping tale. There are Elves, Dwarfs, & magical creatures. There are Humans & Royalty & Knights in shining armor. All described in such rich detail that you become part of their World INSTANTLY! And in this World, you know that the best weapons are Family, Brothers & Sisters in Arms, Honor & most importantly, the power of Friendship & Love. It's appropriate for all ages & if they make a Movie or Series from this story, move over Harry Potter & Avatar! It's gonna be Fantastic! I can't say enough good things about this story without giving secrets away! It's inspiring & uplifting & guaranteed to keep you up all night to see what happens next! I LOVE IT!
I immediately fell in love with this series. I can tell you everything from the progress D. Dalton has undergone with the characters to the ever developing plot that sweeps you away into a land unforgettable. Der is phenomenal and .... Just read every word Dalton put down. You won't be disappointed.
I like to read, or rather I love to read. I have read over 3000 fiction novels in my life. I can't remember a day that I haven't been reading a book.
This book ranks as one of my favourites of all time. A big claim perhaps but I love the characterization and the writing style the author. she draws you in from the first chapter and keeps you there until the very last word in the book
D. Dalton has written an excellent story, the characters are relatable, and familiar. You will laugh cry and cringe along with them.
The hero of the story Derora Saxon wants to become a hero and a warrior, not what is expected of a girl from her small out of the way village, yet she has her mind set upon the goal despite her "Charger" being an farm cart puller and her battle ground being a field out of sight of the adults in the village and her army a rag tag group of youngsters who play at being knights. A little hurdle like that isn't going to stop her, she best all comers from the youngsters in the village despite her diminutive staure. Event take her and her friend through a series of adventures out in the wider world and trials and obsacles that would make any human being falter, turn back, or run for the comfort of home. Yet her detemination and sometimes stuborn refusal to be beaten or broken hold her and her friend in good stead and help her fight, crawl and claw her way through.
The story draws you in and leads you through the adventures, as new characters cross paths with Derora they become people you want to know and befriend, or dislike with equal passion depending upon how they treat our heros.
I have read this book 3 times since it came into print and can't wait for the 2nd book to be available to buy. I have given a copy to my daughter to read because I know that she and Der are kindred spirits, and I hope when she reads it to my grandaughter, she will love it as much as I do and be instilled with the belief that a Girl can do anything she puts her mind to, without ever listening to the nay sayers who tell her Girls don't, Girls shouldn't, Girls can't, because they do, they should and they can do anything, all it takes is determination and and willingness to try.
Thank you D.Dalton for introducing me to a character who will be firm friend and someone I remember for a long time and hope to see again and again if only in my head and not in the real (and frankly dull) world we plod through daily doing our 9-5 to pay the bills.
This is not your normal story. This is a story of a girl who has everything she could want, but still has a fire burning that craves to see the world. A girl who wants to be a warrior. A girl who speaks her mind, isn't afraid of the truth, and is loyal to a fault. But do not take this as her weakness. Winning is her hobby. And thus she sets out on her adventure, only to find out that she has gotten more than what she bargained for. Somehow ending up right in the middle of a war that has been going on for centuries. Can she get through it? Will she survive? Will a mere mortal be able to help win a war that even the Elves aren't sure they can?
This books keeps you at the edge of your seat. There's humor, there's darkness, there's action (lots of that), there's hope, there's dream, there's loyalty. And then there's the teenager instincts as well. This book taught me, that it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks. What matters is your belief in yourself. I loved this book.
