Shiver & Losha both have determination, but for different reasons. Shiver is the Duke and an MI6 agent and Losha is the assassin, but she is now retired. Such big secrets she holds from Shiver. One good thing between them is love, or is it? Action, suspense, mystery are throughout this story. It’s a page-turner for sure. Heather Slade never disappoints.
This was a really good read. Lots of intrigue and secrets abound. It took a while to unravel the secrets but it was thrilling to figure out what was going on. I’m now really interested in reading the books that are interconnected in someway with the characters in this book. Can’t wait to the next book in this series.
Book one of the Royal Agents of M16 is Shivers story. Thornton Whittaker aka Shiver is the Marquess of Wells as his father John Whittaker is on his deathbed and he is the fourteenth Duke of Whittaker Abbey and upon his death Thornton becomes Duke. He is also a high ranking agent in the United Kingdom’s Secret Intelligence Service Also known as Military Intelligence Section 6 or MI6. As if Shivers plate isn’t full enough he is beside himself the woman he loves more than life itself Losha Kuznetsov a Russian assassin, as far as she knows has a Ten-Million-Dollar bounty on her head. She knows that kind of money there’s no way she can ever walk away free and clear. So she has taken her infant son Kazmir who happens to be Shivers child but she hasn’t shared that information with Shiver and she is on the run and in hiding. Every time Shiver gets close to finding out truths something comes up to interfere. Their encounters seem to be wrought with secrets, deception, and the withholding of information. With all the ups and downs and interruptions will they find their HEA? Will they be able to forgive each other and go forward? This author is amazing at keeping the characters coming forward into each book and she brings some forward from past series so they are all somewhat connecting. These series a must for my library. It is rare I read a book more than once, but these are definitely to be read and reread again. I am looking forward to book two of this series. One of my favorite authors. You will not be dissatisfied. I received an Advance Reader's Copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest thoughts and opinions.
The book information drew me in. And I wasn't disappointed because this was a pretty good story. I liked both of the main characters who have led and are leading such an interesting life. Orina (Losha) is still in hiding even from Shiver (Thornton) and has been for quite some time. But he's good at what he does too so he will find her out. Even some of the supporting people in the story kept my interested. And a few of them are holding some pretty dangerous secrets. One of the other people that I now would like to read more about is "Pinch". I'll have to follow that up. I liked Orina's best friend, Zary. The two "girls" have had each other's backs since their teens right into the present time. They still have such a strong friendship and loyalty. I enjoyed that. One thing that I did find a bit uncomfortable was when I realized the story had switched back into Losha and Shiver's past. It wasn't as smooth as I would have liked. But thankfully that only happened a couple of times. There is plenty of dangerous times in the story with it ramping up big time towards the end. It finishes with a H.E.A. and a good Epilogue.
I received a free ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The determination of Thornton 'Shiver' Whittaker, the Marquess of Wells, to locate the love of his life, Orina 'Losha' Kuznetsov, is quite the project. He has agents all over keeping their eye out for her. It's MI5 agent Axel 'Pinch' Fulton, who finds her in Finland. Axel is the Whittaker estate gardener's son and one of Shiver's best friends.
Before he can follow her, he has to speak with his mother, Duchess Victoria, his brother Sutton 'Wilder' and sister Darrow. With his father the Duke fading he has decisions to make especially with regards to his position with MI6.
Shiver does finally locate and reunite with Orina in the US.
Things get a bit crazy as Shiver's father dies. Losha and her friend Zary discover a bomb in the townhouse they were staying at. It's here that many people get involved to keep them safe.
Some of my favorite characters show up in this book, there's plenty of suspense and intrigue as well as a fair amount of family drama. Shiver and Losha have many ups and downs, but their love is very apparent right from the start and extends to their son.
The Duke and Assassin was a great start to this new series. It is my first book by this author, and it definitely won’t be my last. I’m looking forward to where this series takes me. But also going to be checking out other books by this author.
The storyline draws you in from the start, keeping you on edge throughout this book. It was full of danger, suspense, secrets, romance and emotional moments. I was unable to put this book down. I read it all in one go.
