5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling and exciting read!

This is a very different kind of book and an exciting read. It draws you in because you want to know more about the protagonist and how living on the reservation helped to shape her personality. Once the action begins, it really grabs you and takes you on a wild ride. The author is skilled at narrative without boring the reader. The Navajo influence is very real – I can vouch for it in my limited experience on the rez. But most of all, it is a compelling story and builds to an unexpected and satisfying conclusion. I’m very much looking forward to her next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars In response to @ “Avowed Bibliophile” who never even read the book 🙄

“Avowed bibliophile” left a 1 star review based on glancing at 2 pages of a book?  Graphic violence? Hardly a review of the book and certainly not a good basis for judging the writer.
I found this author’s familiarity with the Navajo Reservation authentic and the storyline exciting. Marin Sinclair is exploring how her past is intertwined with the present.  With a growing cast of characters Marin is immersed not just in present mysteries, but in the age old quest of “knowing” yourself.  I look forward to more thought provoking books from this author!

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed reading a suspense novel with it's setting on an Indian reservation. The author gives wonderful details and insights into the culture on the reservation. Very suspense filled with unexpected twists and turns. Well written--can't wait to read the sequel.

Avowed Bibliophile
1.0 out of 5 stars Trigger Warning: gratuitous violence
Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2021
I borrowed this on Kindle Unlimited. I should have read a sample and I regret that I didn't. The author opens with a group of men wandering around and randomly shooting any dogs they find. Ah, that's garbage writing. So I zip the location finder to further on in the book and randomly land on a page where a guy is getting his hand chopped off. Good writers don't need Hollywood gore nor emotional manipulation. Returned book and will NEVER read this author going forward. May the author become educated about putting those kinds of horrific images in a reader's mind.

Really great story. I always love any book with the action taking place in the Navajo Nation. It's as if Leaphorn & Cher will show up. Also, pleaded with the story including all the information on The People.Looking forward to Book 2, hopefully, in the not to distant future, please!
