1.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment

I gave this 1 star because the writing is so terrific. But I'm so disappointed in the characters behavior.

SPOILER CITY coming right up!

The H--like so many heroes in scifi romance, Winter is seriously emotionally damaged. That's not the problem with him, though. It's that he does some truly abusive things to the h, with barely an apology. Twice he physically hurts the h, with angry deliberation. Not in passion, or accidentally. He does this twice while accusing her without basis for things she did not do. This is major, serious red flag behavior. It's not romance, or passion. It's abuse, plain and simple.

The h is quite clearly a victim, and destined to stay one. She has numerous opportunities to leave her situations, but meekly allows herself to be maneuvered with barely an objection.

I put this book down numerous times and finally skipped to the end just to see if the couple resolved their differences. Answer: not really. I didn't get the sense that this was going to be a happy mating. Instead, it sounds like the h will just spend years tolerating an intermittent abuser.

I'm incredibly disappointed that such a terrific writer would put out a story like this. It started strong but spiraled into something dark and tense. It's so unlike the other stories in this series, which a really terrific. I'm damn sorry I read this one.

This is the third book in the Tail and Claw series and a part of the Celestial Mates series. It's a fast-paced and standalone book that will keep you engaged from start to finish. There's action, adventure, drama, danger, suspense, twist/turns, enemies, survival, intrigue, humor, mystery/secrets, surprises, family, friends/friendships, anger, fear, pain, conflict, resolution, confusion, confidence, strength, courage, trust, truths, stubbornness, struggles, protection, rejection, honor, obstacles, heartbreak, arrogance, tension, annoyance, jealousy, doubts, turmoil (emotional), possessiveness, rumors, trials/tribulations, communication, frustration, determination, patience, happiness, romance, passion/lust and love.
This is a story about how a lasting relationship isn't all happiness and sunshine with communication in it.
Read to find out what happens. I voluntarily reviewed this book and this review is my own opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent twist on a sci-fi love story

I loved this book. It was intense and kept me reading straight through till the end. Mari is stood up at the altar, decides to go on her prepaid honeymoon anyway and meets Winter and his son Zero. She travels with them as their pilot to their home on planet Corra. Winter wants more from Mari and she is afraid to move too fast after her failed relationship. Mixed in to the story is the mystery surrounding the death of Winters first wife. Winter and Mari have a real relationship with ups and downs. They are each very different but they make it work. The romance is there. Winter is very protective of Mari and Zero. This was a lovely story.

It's a good story, but I prefer more action the party could've happened sooner for me.
The answers to the night of the accident were in line with the characters involved and satisfactory. Rebels disappearance bothered me until the answer was revealed. Now it makes sense.

I enjoyed this book very much. I think the author changed the story plot in the middle because having someone or thing knocking on the attic door could have lead to another plot but it became just a forgotten room. Otherwise it was a good story.

Mari and Winter click in the strangest way when they first meet despite everything working against them. But these two have a plethora of plots to overcome to get their HEA in this fun read.

If I could pay Nancey Cummings to only write her Tal series, I would do that in a heartbeat. I love each and every one of her Tal characters and the world that she is building.

This story holds a special place in my heart, though.

I love stories that have a strong parental relationship - mainly between a father and son/or daughter.

Winter is a single dad determined to keep his teenage son from being dropped into the limelight. Marigold is not a woman scorned and is full of sunshine. The two of them are a perfect match for each other. This grumpy father meets his match in Mari's bubbly personality. She makes him smile after the death of his mate and how the world saw that.

Go read this book. If you love Merit, well, he makes an appearance (and I just love him all the more for it because Merit is awesome) and Winter is an awesome, overprotective father who falls for a charming human woman.

Absolutely 5-stars.
