This book tells the very interesting story of Robert the Bruce and the struggle for Scottish independence. I already knew that much, but what I learned from this book was the full history, albeit brief.
England was determined to keep Scotland under its rule and tried to beat them into submission. Unfortunately, the English kings never bothered to get to know the Scots. If they had, they would have known that this treatment only made them fight harder. Thus the Scottish suffered many defeats at the hands of the English because they didn't have a strong leader.
Things changed when Robert the Bruce came into the picture. With new determination and new tactics, they were able to defeat the English time after time. Robert I was crowned king of Scotland and Scotland gained its independence.
