This story held my interest throughout the book. Once I started it couldn't put it down. The characters were real and you couldn't help but feel for Maggie and all she had dealt with and was dealing with. The scar that was a reminder of her ex husband's criminal behavior, trying to rebuild her life in a different state. How she dealt with a unsavory character from her ex husband's past, trying to keep the people in her life safe. It was nice reading how Trent the very strong, sexy, alpha hero was able to break down her trust issues that she had with men and let her open up her heart to trusting him and their relationship. Loved reading their HEA.
Jody Vitek's "Florida Heat", starts with Maggie , a nurse and our leading character, suffering a slasher attack at her Texas home. The attack is caused by her husband Mike's involvement with drugs. He is stealing them from the hospital where they both are employed. This attack causes hospitalization, scarring both physical and emotional, and finally a divorce. In order to recover, Maggie moves to Florida, but it's hard being without family or friends in a new place. Having her horse "Blue Bonnet" to visit and ride will ease her loneliness and heartache. It's at the ranch where she boards her horse that she meets Trent, the owner. He's the type of strong, thoughtful man that every woman dreams of meeting, but Maggie cannot let go of her past and trust issues. Trent, though, is immediately smitten with her and tries his best to win her over. To complicate matters , Kevin Shaw, a nefarious friend of her ex -husband also desires her affections. As the steam begins to build between Maggie and Trent, Kevin, (worm that he is), gives Maggie an ultimatum! She is to surrender emotionally and physically to him or steal drugs for him from the hospital. He threatens Trent and her family, and it almost works. Maggie rises to the occasion, with her family ,Trent's, and even her ex's support, and over comes all obstacles! Good characters, great romance, mystery, and a happy ending!

I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This is a wonderful romance novel.
Maggie Carlisle is a great character, who has been scarred both physically and emotionally. She was not looking for love, but when she meets Trent Randall, she cannot deny her attraction to the handsome rancher.
Trent Randall is a strong alpha character. He is caring and loving, and when he meets Maggie, sparks fly!
This book hooked me from the first page! I must admit that I fell in love with these characters! Maggie and Trent make a fantastic couple! I have read a lot (and I mean a lot!) of romance novels over the years. I have read similar (but not exactly the same) stories to this one. However, I love the way that Jody Vitek has woven this romance with danger. I really didn't like Mike (Maggie's ex) and Kevin. Mike has a weak character and is easily manipulated by Kevin. Kevin just plain disgusted me!
This book does have scenes of a sensual nature and is somewhat erotic, but it is not as explicit as some other romances I have read. However, I do not recommend this book for younger readers (-16). This is a super romance to read if you are planning a late summer break, or you are looking for a romance novel to sweep you away for a few hours. - Lynn Worton (WaAR)
She kept my attention throughout with well-drawn and intriguing characters, deftly interwoven plots and a real sense of place (and temperature!). Her characters' conversations are especially well rendered, colloquial and very believable. The plotline has several different layers -- love, betrayal, the seedy element in disguise, all beautifully orchestrated to keep the reader guessing until the end. The love scenes were tropical as well. Very steamy! This book gets right to the point in both action and dialogue. I could identify with the Maggie. Her feelings were real, and the challenges she faces can be related to. You can't help but like her. Her angst kept me turning pages trying to guess how she would solve her dilemma.. She did so in a way that kept me on the edge of my seat and didn't insult the reader's intelligence. Trent is a charming alpha hero who knows almost instantly that Maggie is `the one'. Maggie is very resistant to become involved with anyone so soon after her divorce. and fights her desire for Trent. Add the handsome and persuasive Kevin to the mix to complicate matters. Jody kept me guessing until the very end. She writes a very intriguing and exciting story. I can't wait until the next one.
Before you open the cover of Jody's break-out novel, drink in the rippled abs of the hero on the cover and remember the site while you read the love scenes Jody has crafted so sensually. The cover really says it all about the hero and the main character's love and sex scenes beneath the cover and sheets. Jody's voice is strong and natural throughout the story. The story taking place in beautiful Florida and the heat of the year, Jody never distracted the reader with too many scenery details to take the readers mind off the story. The story starts out with Maggie attacked, leaving her scarred physically and emotionally, thus creating sadness, along with betrayal, her husband's marital infidelity, and from one sting to another ending in divorce. Maggie, while trying to heal and start over with a new life in Florida, with the help of her family finds a hunk to help her through all the turmoil in her shaken life. While trying to restore her faith in men and relationships she runs into roadblocks from evil men from her past who either want to kill her, bring her into a life of crime or make her their love slave. But with the help from friends, her father, law enforcement and the rancher she is saved from a life of fear and despair to live happily-ever-after with the love of her life, Trent.
