5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional and Beautiful Romance

Training Complex is the second book in the Training Season series. I don’t suggest reading it as a standalone, although it could technically work as one. There is so much that happens in book 1, Training Season, that really enhances the emotional outcome of Training Complex.

I was blown away by this book. Leta Blake is a fantastic writer who really delved into the emotional complexities that come with being human. Rob, a strong Dom who cares for his sub, still has his weaknesses and vulnerabilities, still has his flaws and challenges, still stumbles and falls. Matty, the professional figure skater and pretty sub, still has his insecurities and demons, but also has amazing strength when he finally needs to step up and shoulder some of the burden. Together, these two characters completely melted my heart and touched me deeply. I was so in awe of how the navigated their emotions and breakdowns, and I was so ecstatic to see them fight for their happy ending.

The relationship between Rob and Matty is extremely dynamic and complex, and features a lot of kink and BDSM. Some of their play may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I absolutely loved it. I thought it was unique and extremely personal to both characters. Also, there were a lot of really hot and steamy sex scenes that had me fanning myself.

The audiobook was narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo who does an incredible job. I love Michael’s voice and found his narration perfect for the intricate emotions and fascinating storyline. The audiobook production was well done and overall I found this to be a highly enjoyable listening experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Matty and Rob at their most complex!

<SPOILERS> Matty has been one of my most favorite characters EVER, so I read Training Season again before starting Training Complex and I'm extremely grateful I did.
As much as I was looking forward to this sequel, I had a hard time experiencing the dark emotional turbulence surrounding Rob and Matty. That being said, this story was fantastic! I so appreciate that Leta Blake did not just give us a fluff piece, where they met back up in NYC several years later and everything was hunky-dory between them. She used her imagination to write a heartbreaking look at what could happen when you meet your soul-mate at the wrong time in your life, and how love doesn’t mean that you throw away your dreams and commitments, no matter how much you might want to. While the love between Rob and Matty was strong enough to survive the distance and years apart, once they found each other again, it didn’t keep outside elements from overshadowing that love to the point where it could have destroy everything good between them. The light BDSM we read about in book 1 nowhere near prepared us for the hardcore BDSM and Matty’s need for pain infliction in book 2. While I think this may have turned off some readers, Leta’s research and detailed descriptions placed the focus of each scene on the love Rob had for Matty and his desire to give him what he needed, despite that it hurt Rob tremendously. The cock cage part was so pitiful, but hilarious and completely different from any other similar play I’ve read in other books, that I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. The discussions Rob had with Sato about the difference between eating disorder and disordered eating and what often happens to men and women in their desire to be the best at their sport were also fascinating. Great job Leta! I highly recommend this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Complex Sequel

Wow! I remember the author posting on FB that she had changed directions many times during the writing of the book, but I was not prepared for this version of Matty & Rob or the darker journey they end up needing to travel. This book was a definite roller coaster ride of emotions for me.

Where Training Season ends, it doesn't leave the reader wondering what's next, just wanting more, so I was so curious to see what Leta Blake had in store for the flamboyant and vivacious figure skater Matty and his cowboy, turned city boy, boyfriend, Rob. My only advice is buckle up, because it's a heck of a ride.

The additional character development was by far, one of the most amazing parts of the book for me. Talk about adding depth and complexity to the MC's, in the sequel no less, which is not where I would expect to see such dramatic character development. Rob & Matty, are still R&M, but an unhinged and more dysfunctional version of the Rob & Matty you got to know in Training Season and it gave them a place to go and grow, both individually and together. The other big point in the story was the introduction of Sato, who becomes such a strong and potent secondary character.

By the end, their journey, although filled with challenges, is complete, not leaving the reader wondering or dissatisfied or wishing it had taken a different turn (at least not for me).

I want to be Leta Blake when I grow up! *sigh* I always need to sit back and decompress after reading one of her books. Where do I begin here? Okay, Training Complex is the sequel to Training Season. We join Matty and Rob in New York. Matty is coaching figure skating and Rob is a PT. These two love like no others. Leta brings that all consuming, old fashioned, From Here to Eternity feel to the love they have. Of course on a hotness scale it just explodes. SO HOT! They have a BDSM relationship and I want to buy Leta a huge ass drink for getting it right. You want to know how BDSM works? THIS, HERE. She knows what she's talking about. She addresses SO many issues in this book, Disordered eating, depression, anxiety. And it's breathtaking. I love reading her books because it's like being wrapped in a blanket of perfection. There are a million layers to her plots, and her characters. She flows through it brilliantly and it feels almost effortless. Training Complex is the perfect balance of angst, happiness, love, loss, and fear. Leta brings them together in a way that you are left truly content. Bravo, Leta. Another 5 star story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved, loved, loved this book - it left me emotionally ragged but deeply satisfied.

The first book, Training Season introduced us to 2 wonderful characters, Matty and Rob and this second book Training Complex is the continuation of their wonderful story. Their relationship is certainly 'complex' and this book tells their journey through the trials and tribulations of their developing love story. Rob is the alpha; he's strong, handsome and the dominant one in the bedroom. Matty is the more complex character; a former figure skating Olympian, he carries with him so much baggage on a daily basis it's a wonder he even gets out the front door let alone participate in a functioning relationship. It's an emotional roller coaster of a story that Leta Blake tells so well. I cried, laughed, moaned and sighed - a lot! I fell in love with Matty in the first book and he's stayed with me all this time so I was more than eager to see how he and Rob were getting on. Leta did not disappoint - in fact this was such an enthralling and engaging book I sat through 3 hours at the tattoo parlour totally distracted from the pain! I was so absorbed by Leta's wonderful words. Loved, loved, loved this book - it left me emotionally ragged but deeply satisfied. (Sated in fact because these two men are nothing if not sexy!) Congratulations Leta Blake - The Training Complex was marvellous!

After reading and absolutely loving Training season, i was really looking forward to this book, and I wasn't disappointed. The story line was strong and engaging throughout and kept me reading till I finished. So why only 4 stars I hear you ask. As I said previously, I loved training season and Matty in particular, he was vibrant and funny despite being a bit of a diva, and he made you feel like his relationship with Rob (what can I say except I think we all wish we had our very own Rob at home, he's so dreamy and perfect) was going to become the biggest thing in his life when he gave up competitive skating. However, in Training complex I found Matty to be so self absorbed and oblivious to Robs feelings and issues that he kind of lost his sparkle a bit for me. I understand that the author tackled some difficult issues in this book, and she appeared to do it well, but after reading trading season, which for the most part, was light hearted and fun to read, for my personal taste, I just found this to be hard reading at times. All of that said, I would highly recommended this book and will read it again, a definite keeper

Il secondo episodio invece mi ha disturbata. Non ho creduto a una parola di quello che viene descritto qui e la soluzione ai problemi del protagonista, così estrema e negativa mi ha indotto ad abbandonare il testo molto prima della fine.

So good! I was very excited to hear that there was going to be a sequel to Training Season . I just loved the first book. This sequel is just as good. I love these two characters and was trying to read this story as slow as possible because I did not want it to end. Highly recommend this book. There has not been one book by this author that I would not recommend :)
