5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I hoped for and more!!

I got hooked on Albanys books with Infinity Chronicles and then Friends with the Monsters, so I immediately pre-ordered this one when it became available. It did not disappoint!!!
Quinn is the perfect combination of smart, sassy, naive, and clumsy! Her guys are overprotective alphas that can't figure out how to tell a human that they both want her. I just wanted to slap Griff so hard so many times.
Of course it wouldn't be an academy based story without drama but Quinn has a great group of friends from day one!
I must warn you all, though, the book ended and I started telling that I NEED MORE!!! That's really the only complaint I have. I. Need. More. Now!!

As always Albany has not disappointed me and I am very impatiently waiting for the next book.

*I am voluntarily leaving a review after receiving an advance copy but I also pre-ordered and downloaded it*

Havenfall Harbor: Book One Kindle Edition

by Albany Walker

A new academy romance from the author of 2019's hysterically funny Friends with the Monsters, Havenfall turns to the genre on its head. Instead of the new, awkward student, we meet Quinn, a new Human Liaison to the supernaturals at the school. The school, with a storied and long past, is for the home for wayward (read delinquent were they humans) and orphan shifters, vampires and other more than mortal students. She is a strong willed human female who wants nothing more than to help the supes and humans get along.
There is a theme that echoes some of the issues students of color have had in integrating the US. The theme seems to carry throughout without being diminished at all by Ms. Walker's signature humor that made Friends with the Monsters such a hit.
The lead characters are a fun mix. Instead of the stereotypical character of a suave vampire, we get Griffin Stone, the headmaster of Havenfall. No matter what he tries, his mouth just get ahead of his brain – to hilarious effect. As a counterpoint, we have Evan Winters, the shifter who fills out the love triangle/menage. He is more aware and less abrasive to the complex heroine, Quinn.
Quinn herself is kind, intelligent, incredibly curious and determined to make the world a better place. Her easy affect with the children reminds me of the best teachers I have had. She is the kind of person people are comfortable with to share they longed for wish.
Ms. Walker also lays a few red-herrings about who will eventually fill out the cast. From angry exes to friendly vampires (other than Griffin). Just enough that when Griffin and Evan solidify their plan to keep Quinn it is a touch of a surprise.
While Ms. Walker previous work, Friends with the Monsters, is a Reverse Harem, Havenfall is a menage romance, with Griffin and Evan being Quinn's partners. It is also super, deliciously slow burn. Wonderful confusions and mistakes litter the story, keeping us on tenterhooks
Told in first person tense that shift between Quinn, Griffin and Evan. Many times, Ms. Walker brilliantly uses the convention of the shifting point of view backing up a bit to the previous bit of the previous narration.
There is a bit of a mystery. Who is harassing Quinn? Who is out to drive her from the Academy? And it leaves us on a cliffhanger.

I love how the auto book was done the voices were the correct character even if it was someone else's point of view it was amazing it was almost like listening to a movie! Even the phone conversation replies sound like it was really coming from the phone or a walkie talkie it was wonderful to listen to! The best auto book I have ever listed to!

I admit to being a total fan of the RH genre. That being said, some are definitely more well written than others. It's a slow burn, but with excellent dialog and chemistry the builds organically between Quinn and her two heros, Griffin and Evan. The friendship between the two guys is also very well done. They are so seamless in how well they get each other, that it compliments their shared mate bond with Quinn. I will be counting the days until book two hits my kindle!

I hate cliffhangers but I love the beginning of this series. True to her form this story has my attention within the first paragraph. Slow burn was good. Can't wait to see if we get a bonfire in the coming books. Her ability to tell a story has me actually seeing the world she creates. Another winner i.m.o.

The chemistry and organic friction created between her ND and love interests is always so beautiful and I love the different species she chooses for her characters. I cannot get enough and will anxiously be waiting for any supernatural books she drops.

I really enjoyed this!!!

It always fascinates me, the different versions and interpretations of how a supernatural is, so I was enthralled with this one.

A really great slow-burn was just what I needed right now and this one hit the spot for me. The intrigue had me salivating for more. The characters well developed and defined. The light and shade contrasts between the characters and how they worked together was captivating to see and gets you invested in their journey. With sweet and swoony moments, some laugh out loud moments and mystery and intensity makes this an all around read, not to also mention the supernatural aspect! A great world and plot to get sunk into. It’s definitely worth a read!

Albany has sold me once again on another great book!
