4.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not great. Kept my interest

This was a fast read (~70,000 words) of a thriller than was perhaps 85% there. A number of Deus Ex Machina plot points produced groans....disappointing. Also, protagonist, Matthew Connor can be suddenly the expert at anything the author wants him to be, without flinching or excuse. There are some research areas that were weak, like a chronometer does not" measure longitude", but is rather an accurate sea clock (invented by John Harrison) that can be used to calculate longitude while at sea. Lastly, the careless and over use of pronouns (rather than proper nouns) for characters was confusing. There could be 5 characters in a scene and the extended use of indefinite pronouns required re-reading to see who the antecedent was. Needed better editing. The story was otherwise good. One final disappointment. I had though this was going to be more a story of legendary pirate Gasparilla directly, and not modern day sleuths looking for his treasure. There was VERY little here about the legend. Okay, my final disappointment was the near total absence of red herrings. The sleuths found the right clues at the right time, which took them directly to the spot. Of course, adding plausible red herrings would have made the story longer. The 4 stars is for the enjoyment of the story, not the speed bumps herein mentioned.

I began ready this pirate story wondering if it would keep my interest. At the conclusion of the book I realized I couldn’t wait to finish it though I had to put it down in order to complete other tasks.
The ending was guide dramatic and caught me by surprise. You will enjoy reading this book.

I have really missed Mathew, Robyn, Calm and Daniel! So loved, to purchase this long before it came out. It was very goof as well as the group head out on a ? Legend. An old villain pops up creating more chaos to the mix. Harrowing adventures continue to follow the team. Pick it up and you will enjoy it! Solid read. Now to wait for the next adventure

5.0 out of 5 stars Non stop Action.

Very well done. Exciting and you could just see the action happening....this would make a great movie. Too bad Harrison Ford is too old for the lead. There were a couple of minor irritants but all in all the story progressed well and the end was satisfying. Definitely better than the last, although that was very good also.

What an awesome book! Adventure that is unbelievable. Really a page turner. They are chased around DC and shot at yet they jump on with both feet! So exciting, the travel, the threats from a previous antagonizer. You can’t go wrong with this book!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun story

The story is good and entertaining but a couple of not so goods. 1) sonar shows things underwater, not radar. 2) Wooden ships sunk in the gulf Mexico 200 years ago are not recognizable as ships today.
