5.0 out of 5 stars ... "she could see and perceive everything" ...

Being used to The American Mercenary Series and The Spider Heist Thrillers, I did not know what to expect from my favorite author with this book. Five words: WHAT A D*MN GOOD BOOK! This was the most realistic story I have read about Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) in a long time (although this book is fiction, the research has been done). I do not know why I am always so surprised by this author's efforts (he gets better with every book he writes), but each book just has the ability to WOW me...

Jason Kasper has really outdone himself with this novel — not a surprise to me (I have been a fan since the beginning). The dark twists and turns will, at times, shock, thrill, horrify and/or surprise you. I was addicted from the first words, my mind held captive for a few hours. Sometimes, I read slow to make sure I did not miss any details and sometimes I read fast, dying to see what would happen next. Every time you think you know what is going on, something in the story causes you to second-guess yourself. By the end, I was holding my breath in anticipation. Thank you, Mr. Kasper, for this excellent thriller!

This story takes place in 2021 after Clara returns from Afghanistan war... If you thought 22 suicides a day by veterans (USA) was horrifying, this book will give you a further explanation (to that statistic) that will make your blood run cold. Obviously, the system is broken and it needs to be fixed...

AfterThought:The book takes a hard look at veterans and PTS, done in a manner that lets you hope more veterans will get the help they need. I also hope some of the quacks will have their licenses revoked, left without loopholes to get around the laws, thereby (hopefully) harming no more vets. This is no way to treat these honorable men and women...

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding new book and hugely important work

This new book is definitely a level WAY beyond Jason's normal excellent writing. What a fantastic achievement!

Initially, I was captivated by the mental anguish that Clara was experiencing when in her dark moments she was contemplating whether drinking herself into a mindless stupor or committing suicide was a better alternative than surviving another day of impossible frustration.

As the chapters continued, I became more and more engaged, enthralled and then desperate to know if she would somehow escape and survive the horrors of her capture and her drug induced near death experience!
I even found myself tearing up at several points in the story as I had become totally involved with Clara's character and her family! An awesome achievement!

Let me start by saying I am a HUGE Jason Kasper fan! I started on the David Rivers series and I, literally, could not put those books down! I read through the entire collection in record time. Kasper's writing has been like no other of this genre. He has an amazing way to craft his writing and the story lines are refreshing and unique!
I've also read the Spider Heist series and cannot wait for the 3rd installment. Like the David Rivers, the story line and the writing is great!
Then there's, "Her Dark Silence". How can I sum this book up??? How about..."Ummm, what?!?!"
I purchased this book a few nights ago a read it rather quickly for my normal. It was a rough start and began picking up about chapter 4. I kept reading and reading waiting for that..."kicker"...where the story starts to grab you like Kasper's other novels. But it just never happened for me.
I don't know what I was waiting for as it felt like Kasper wanted to get his point across that PTSD needs to be way more focused on. I guess he did through this book but then it felt like I was reading a "Jacob's Ladder", where I was waiting for the end to say it's all been a dream in the final minutes of death. Nope.
I don't know, by the last chapter I was expecting...something! But it just never happened. And the ending was so "off the wall" and felt like so many steps were missing.
Bottom line - no way near his other series. I mean not even close! I am waiting very impatiently for the next David Rivers and Spider Heist but I hope this, "Her Dark Silence", is a one and done.

5.0 out of 5 stars This story seems to exist on two levels - entertaining fiction and painful reality

I'm a big Kasper fan so I'm spring loaded to "like" his works. This steps out of his usual "enterprising criminal" genre but still brings realistic detail onto every page. As I read this fiction I was aware that Jason Kasper has a military background. So some of his fictional events raised the reality flag for me. Has Jason, in reality, lived through some of these horrific events? Did he make a female, Clara, the protagonist to move the reality of his real life military experiences away from the light of day? If so, did writing this story purge the demons or inflame them? In the best thriller tradition there are unexpected twists, turns and blood splatters aplenty.
This book is written for anyone who likes edge of the seat, what's coming next, thrillers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A detailed look into the mental health of combat veterans with some plot twists.

Jason has changed pace with this one and gives a deeper look into the skeletons in the closet of veterans that he has alluded to in previous series. Add in a conspiracy and you have the plot line for this, latest work. There’s a ton of background for the main character so the front half keeps a slower rhythm that picks up a little before the half way mark.

Wow, I think I'll be chewing on this book for a couple weeks. The character was so relatable, and it was both heart wrenching and horrifying to travel on this journey with her. This psychological thriller is new territory for Jason Kasper, and I'm looking forward to what he does next! This was a real page turner that ramped up to an all out sprint at the end.
