If you have children growing into sexuality and want to make a biblical case for abstinence...with help, even an upper elementary age child could grasp this. Especially for a thorough biblical thought thread tracking the entire concept of marriage, this is a helpful interesting read. Thinking Christians should have it on their shelves. Even non-Christians who want a thought-full presentation of this side of the issue would find it intriguing and engaging.
Sex and sexuality are no longer taboo topics. They are out in the open, and Christians are often perceived as prudes. But in Why Does God Care Who I Sleep With?, Sam Allberry helps us properly understand the teachings of Jesus to bring us closer to fulfilling our deepest longings.
About the Author
Allberry is a speaker and author as well as a church leader and pastor. He speaks around the world on the issues of sexuality and identity, so he is quite familiar with the subject at hand.
In 11 chapters and less than 150 pages, Allberry helps us see that God cares who people sleep with because he cares about the people who are doing the sleeping. God cares for people. God cares for us. He addresses the #MeToo and #ChurchToo movements, as well as the question “What is a little girl worth?”
A Theology on Sex
Allberry uses the Bible to help him prove his points. Scripture is explained throughout the book, and he takes us to the familiar stories of Adam and Eve, David and Bathsheba, and the Woman at the Well. He offers hope for sexual sin and applies the Gospel to the sexually damaged as well as to those who have done the damaging.
In a critical moment, Allberry helps us see that what we desire in sex can only be satisfied in Jesus. And when looking at what the Bible fundamentally says about love, he breaks it down in 4 points: (1) Love really does matter, (2) We’re not as loving as we think, (3) We need God’s help, and (4) Love may need to wait.
For our Good and for His Glory
The book concludes with the picture of Jesus as the Bridegroom and the Church as his bride. There is a divine wedding and a beautiful banquet to look forward to. Earthly marriage and the sex that comes with it are supposed to paint a picture of the bond we have with Christ. And so this book helps us see that God cares about who I sleep with because he cares about our good as well as his own glory. And this is an answer worth sharing.
I received a media copy of Why Does God Care Who I Sleep With? and this is my honest review.

An absolutely excellent book that is simple and easily accessible in style, but delivers great wisdom in bite-size chunks. The author is a gifted writer who is able to explain complex ideas in simple ways. This very real question is answered with a lot of reality in the answers - no dancing around the subject here! I have read a lot of books about human sexuality and this is probably one of the most helpful ever. Besides the content being excellent, the design is also very good with a large fold over flap at either end of the book so that you have a built-in bookmark!
I have seriously messed up and would have loved to have read and understood this year's ago.. At least it has helped me understand myself better and why I was acting the way I was. Great to know why God cares because He loves us and knows what is best for us
