Primordial Island mixes genres seamlessly bringing all the best elements of Drama, Fantasy, and SciFi together around a great central story. Rick's characters interact on a realistic human level. There is a love story, including a potential love triangle. Those same characters also adapt to the incredible revelation of living dinosaurs and unknown native tribes with all the mythology that turns out to be no so mythical that goes with native tribes. The best description of this book I can come up with is Indiana Jones, Land of the Lost, and some elements of John Carter thrown in a blender with elements never thought of before to create a page turner.
3.0 out of 5 starsThe title doesn't do the book justice/rather disappointing.

Well, the title and the description of the book don't really describe the content of this book. It's kind of like dinosaur island meets space/time continuum meets Big corporation with a hidden agenda. It started off with a plane crashing on an unknown prehistoric island, continued with a lacking in knowledge rescue team, and kind of morphed into a battle with good vs evil between two stone possessed fairly normal people. Some back story interludes really muddied things up for me and left me with wondering why even have them as a part of the story. It could have been a good story with the dinosaurs vs the rescue team and its survival, but it went off on a tangent with a death stone and zombies vs life stone and a geeky hero. I won't look for any sequels.

"Primordial Island" by Rick Poldark is a great sci-fi book. I heard the author on the House of Mystery podcast series and was intrigued. I love dinosaurs, and this is about a group of scientists with a security force that goes to an island where a plane crashed. The island has a weird magnetic field (which the author explains) that doesn't allow it to be picked up by satellite. I can see this being made into a great television film- The author gives insight to the characters and gets you to know them and their personal struggles while balancing the sci-fi aspect of the quest on the island. Loved the dinosaur depiction and other surprises. I look forward to reading the next book by this author. 5 of 5 stars

Lots of dinosaur action, an amazing story, great characters. I loved the interaction between the different characters. They felt real to me. Highly recommend this book!
which starts as a 5 star with dinosaurs, descends into zombie-cannibals, then turns into a terrific thriller at the end. I rated it a 5-3-5 star and gave it a 5 overall. Parts were excellent. One continuity error: 'two people like us explained Jason' should be 'explained Mark' since it was a conversation.
I failed to see either of the two ending surprises coming. Perhaps leading to a sequel.
Enjoyed reading this book. It has a "Land of the Lost" feel to it, like the Saturday morning cartoon from years past, but that is what I like. Reads as a stand alone but leaves an opening for a sequel. I immediately looked for one but could not find. Would purchase another book from this author.
