4.0 out of 5 stars Quick, clean read

Okay, first of all, there were things in this book that just weren't realistic and I realize some readers may have problems with that. Twins who meet for the first time and immediately realize that they are twins? Hmm. Then they decide to swap lives the very next morning without any real preparation? (Remember, in the Parent Trap the girls rehearsed endlessly for their swap!) Yeah, there were holes in the plot, but you know what? I just didn't care. Normally things like this drive me crazy, but I liked both the heroine and the hero so much I just let the story take me where it wanted to go. I've been having trouble lately with stories where the heroine was supposed to be 'spunky' and just ended up being stupid or the hero was 'manly' and I felt he was obnoxious so the two main characters here were a surprise for me. I would have rated this book 5 stars, instead of 4 if there hadn't been so many holes in the plot. But I enjoyed the book so much that I have already bought the second one.

There are no language or sexual situations to offend any readers.

Two women, twins separated at birth after being left in an orphanage are reunited years later. One is a noblewoman (Emily) and the other who is left in the orphanage is a cleaning woman (Ava) at a bookstore. A Duke who is at the bookstore often with his sisters becomes the cleaning women's crush. And when the two sisters meet each other and realize they are twins they decide, for a rather tenuous reason, to switch lives for a month. And of course the one who grew up in a noble family has been engaged to the Duke who the cleaning woman has a crush on. The story winds wildly, crazily, and delightfully from there to a very improbable happy ending. The book is well written and the language is strong and the characters of course, make it all work together.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good premise, poor execution
Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2019
I agree with the other reviewers who have pointed out the poorly developed,far-fetched plot points, poor grammar, typos, etc. I won't even go into the grammar and typos, except to point out that it seems the fewer grammar errors/typos in a book, the better quality the writing.
My main complaint about this book is that it is just totally unbelievable that two young women would come face to face and, in minutes, decide that they are twins. What? It never even occurs to them that it might be coincidence or that Ava could be an illegitimate half-sister or cousin? Even more unbelievable is that they decide to trade places for a month, beginning the next morning. Double What? In the first place, what the heck is Lady Emily doing out at 7:00 at night with only a maid? Why did she leave the comfort of her carriage to go into a book store in the pouring rain? Even if she had been shopping, why didn't Lady Emily just go to her carriage? She clearly was not shopping for a book. Despite Ava's education, what about her accent? The author does mention Ava's work-roughened hands could be a problem, but then never mentions that point again. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. This lack of development appears throughout the book. If I had been reading a paperback instead of my Kindle, I would have thrown it against a wall.
Some people have noted the scene lifted from "Pretty Woman," (in the bonnet trimmings scene). The scene where Ava plays the water glasses is straight out of "Miss Congeniality." Lifting one scene might be forgiven, but lifting two scenes is just lazy. Those two scenes feel so anachronistic since both movies are so well-known that the scenes in the book really felt jarring.
Bottom line, don't waste your time on this book, which is a shame, because it had a cute premise and could have been a really good book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Swap and disguise

A story of twins who got separated as infants who found each other 20 years later. They lived very different lives and decided to swap places. This story focused on Ava, who grew up in an orphanage. It’s a sweet and clean love story with her Duke. I enjoyed the details of the story. The deceit and disguise is balanced with love and compassion.

I enjoyed this book for the most part. But it became too unrealistic when the twins first met and when their "father" first saw them together. Both of these encounters would have been extremely shocking and would have taken much more time and thought to adjust to. Their plan the first night when they switched places was fraught with problems. Emily and Mary would never have thought that was a good plan.

I really enjoyed this story. It moved along at a decent clip and the characters were likable. The ending was nice though not completely realistic in how many great coincidences happened for everything to fall into place. But that's the way I like my fiction! This was my first Claudia Stone book and I plan to read the next in the series when it's available.

I enjoyed this book. It's a clean historical romance (for those who care one way or the other). The story wasn't particularly original, but that doesn't bother me as long as the story is well told. In this case, it was. The story flowed well and I enjoyed watching it unfold. There were a few typos (generally the wrong word being typed, like "is" instead of "in") and in one place, the author had written "Ava" when she should have used "Emily" because it was from the point of view of someone who didn't know they'd switched.

Still, it was a pleasant read and I've downloaded the second book to see what happened to the other twin.

Requires some suspension of disbelief over the way the twins instantly swap lives after knowing each other for about a minute, but nevertheless a delightful story and prettily written.
