First let me say the story line was well written and the characters had depth. That kept me reading to the end, but just barely...
Like other readers, I got a little tired of the constant observations and repeated descriptions. Hoards of long paragraphs just repeated information in different words (or sometimes the same words) were stuck in all over the book. I felt like it should have been a quicker read, but the repeated info slowed down the story for me and made it difficult to read.
I also would have given it 4 stars, but I was not fond of the ending. The teaser for the next book in the series wasn't enough, and left me wondering what happened when she opened the door. The ending could have been a little stronger. I prefer a book in the series that doesn't land with "to be continued" in some way. I would have liked to see this book stand alone, with the reader wanting to read more of the characters in the following books. Sadly, because of the ending and the confusing teaser, I don't care to finish the series.
Overall, though, this is a decent book and the author has done a beautiful job laying out a story. My suggestion is leaving out all the useless info.
