3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable selection of paranormal stories

** spoiler alert **There is the major story The Bear Shifter's Virgin and then several other stories, all dealing with the paranormal.
The bear shifter is Isaias Durant, who lives out in the woods with his housekeeper and her baby. Their parents were murdered at the same time by an anti-shifter. Shifters are "out", but are considered second-class citizens, so Isaias keeps what he is secret and uses his money to present shifters in a good light.
Rebecca Lake, Isaias' neighbor, is an author who uses shifter characters in her books. She has no idea about Isaias or how shifters actually live. She is attacked by what she thinks is a "real" bear. Isaias knows better and invites her to take shelter in his compound.
Meanwhile, his plan expects him to take a wife, human or shifter. Isaias isn't ready, so he asks Rebecca to pretend to be his fiancé. His clan doesn't believe the lie and force them into a shifter ceremony.
The question is whether a relationship between Isaias and Rebecca is possible and who his after them.

The Bear Shifter's Virgin...Rebecca and Isaias's story. Writer Rebecca Lake has writer's block. She's unable to finish her shifter book. While on a walk to clear her mind, she is chased by a bear and rescued by her next door neighbor, Isaias. Unknown to Becca, Isaias is a bear shifter. He is very rich and very handsome and Becca is drawn to him and Isaias finds himself thinking up ways to spend time with Becca. But an old enemy is stirring up trouble that may just mean the end to Becca and Isaias. This book has lots of drama, suspense and romance. The characters are likable and engaging. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Extra - Buy this book now before the temporary bonus stories end! The Bear Shifter's Virgin is worth the price of the book, but the bonus stories make this volume a fantastic value. I love shifter stories and this book has so many good ones. Happy reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unanticipated danger and emotional predicaments

The Fated Bears series begins with a story where two individuals have an unexpected chance to be in a relationship, but they will have to face numerous obstacles first. I like reading about bear shifters and humans, and Jasmine Wylder has created an original world for her characters, where any supernatural aspects are unique. THE BEAR SHIFTER’S VIRGIN has unforeseen danger, fascinating beings, and emotional predicaments.

After several of her books sold well, author Rebecca Lake lives comfortably in a home surrounded by woods. She has one nearby neighbor, Isaias Durant, who is friendly and secretly stars in some of her fantasies. When several strange events occur, she feels threatened, and he offers her a solution that will benefit both of them. He is a billionaire with too many females seeking his attention, plus he is a bear shifter. Isaias thinks having Rebecca be his fiancée for a short time will stop women from bothering him, and it will give him time to know her better while she is under his protection.

It is always interesting to discover what type of behavior and abilities an author gives her shifters, and those imagined by Jasmine Wylder are certainly intriguing. What is happening in the lives of Isaias and Rebecca is realistically depicted, and several surprising facts are revealed by the time the story concluded. The jeopardy that comes into their lives kept me reading, and several scenes are truly heart-pounding. An entertaining start to the Fated Bears series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Becky couldn't have written it better herself
Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2018

Becky is an author trying to get another page written, and avoiding even thinking concepts like 'block' when her neighbor comes to her rescue. Isaias would be lying if he said he had never noticed Becky, but figuring out how they could fit in one another's lives had clearly been beyond him.

This quick read addresses a lot of timely topics, using shifters vs humans to broach topics of immigration most notably, and discussing things in a sensitive, meaningful, non-preachy manner that flows as part of the story.

2.0 out of 5 stars Banal and book-stuffed
Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2018

First, the title book of this collection is banal. The alpha hero isn't very alpha and the heroine's just wishy-washy. Good editing gives the story a full star, even though the writing is lackluster and the story absurd and contrived.

The author is also guilty of book stuffing adding in stories to pad the document length to earn additional revenue through the number of pages read. This is dishonest.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's always nice when I read a good book that I got for free.

I enjoyed this story but felt like it lacked some world building. Had no idea that shifters were out until the last 3/4ths of the book. This felt well written and was engaging from beginning to end even though I was slightly confused at the start. It's always nice when I read a good book that I got for free.

4.0 out of 5 stars So many stories
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 14, 2018

This is titled as one story when, in fact, it is probably five or six.

I liked most of them but found the vampire one a bit wordy, it could have been much shorter. The rest were good but frequently spoiled by poor editing. I would have liked to give the entire book 3 1/2 stars but will give 4 as half stars are not available. If the vampire tale is taken out or heavily edited this anthology would be worth five stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual and exciting shifter romance

A great mix of action and romance that makes this a fast paced read. The darker characters and plot lines brought a freshness to this shifter and human romance. I'd have liked a little more resolution for some of the key secondary characters and I wondered what happened to their clan. That said this is a fun read with a sweet HEA.
