5.0 out of 5 stars Estate Administration 101

After the sudden, tragic death of both parents, the author begins her grieving process and enters the world of estate administration, unfamiliar territory to most until we have to walk that walk, learning as we go along... The author is gifted with a peaceful grace which has helped her create this handbook and memoir. This book is a "how to" guide, Estate Administration 101, and an educational tool one should keep in their library as a guide and reference. Dealing with an estate is a daunting and overwhelming process. The author's wit and humor puts the reader at ease while she goes through the funeral, the process of claiming assets, closing accounts, accounting ledgers, family records and the home--dealing with years of accumulated family treasure. Throughout the entire text, the author preserves the respect for her deceased parents. This book is a "hands-on" education, a thought process with a strategy to uncover the final chapter of one's life and lastly, a marked success! We, as a society, find the subject of our own mortality or that of a loved one, difficult to accept. This book provides an efficient and effective plan on how to proceed after the death of a loved one in terms of settling an estate.

The author describes her months of grieving in such a manner that you feel you are living those days with her as she uncovers information, records it and moves forward organized, meticulous and attentive to every detail. As documents are uncovered or leads found, her painful loss brings her closer to closure and seems to give her a sense of peace.

This book has provided me with a methodical approach to administering an estate. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars What to Know before you Go

In this stirring memoir, Ms Moynahan reveals a family tragedy and the lessons she learned as a result of it. Her organized approach to administering an estate is well thought out. I especially liked her highlighting "Things to Consider" at the end of each chapter. It is excellent reading for anyone who might be in the position of administering an estate. But it is also useful reading for anyone wanting to make life easier for those who will have to do such administering!

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable support -- if only I'd had this book sooner

If you, or someone you know, will be the one to administer an estate no matter how big or small, then get this now and not later when grief has washed over you. I'm at least 85% through administration for my father's relatively small estate. I need to tell you -- even small estates can have complexities that you would never anticipate. Any estate administration can disrupt your own life including your job because there is so much to do. This extra job is not fun moonlighting.

Eileen Moynahan's book provides very practical advice for approaching this task. While reading her book, I kept thinking "yep, that happened to me" and "oh, good, I'm glad I did that." The tasks that have to be done are not all intuitive. Even if you've hired an estate attorney (which I also did), chances are the attorney will not cover all the angles so use Moynahan's book to fill the gaps. A combination of both will give you a big sense of relief and confidence at a time you need it most.

Moynahan's light tone of voice, sometimes humorous, makes this serious subject easily readable and comprehensible. I only wish she had written the book a year ago when I started my work as an executor. I could have used it as part of my support system.

Eileen Moynahan’s book gets to the point in a most entertaining way about a subject that is not entertaining, yet necessary. I would suggest reading this to make it easier to administer an estate after a loved ones death.

Such an accessible read, full of practicable information laid out in easy to execute tasks. Ms. Moynahan shares her touching personal experience, educating the reading as she desribes the steps she took to handle her parents estate.
Her conversational and at times playful style, kept me engaged through out. In fact I finished the book within a few hours. I am going to give it as holiday gifts to my family, friends and clients. Everyone should know how to handle a loved one's life upon their death.

Eileen was able to convey her knowledge on estate administration in a way that touches your heart, your funny bone and that part of your brain that wants to deny that most of us will eventually be dealing with this dreaded deed. I wish I had read her advice before having had to deal with the passing of my father but I will use what I have learned from her when I am inevitably confronted with loss again. Thank you Eileen for sharing your experience and making a “tough read” both bearable and enjoyable. You have done your parents proud!
