5.0 out of 5 stars Terrfic Dystopian Fantasy

Having survived an attack by humans and kidnapping, Spicy is now on the road with Fath, the dragon, and Hog, a female Troll. The dragon has agreed to take him on as an apprentice to learn their secret language, but Spicy insists that Fath help him rescue a Goblin friend and five Goblin children from slavery in the human towns. Meanwhile, the mercenaries, Alma and Blades, managed to survive the battle with the dragon and are now looking for a new source of income. Imagine their surprise when they discover Spicy is traveling with a troll and a dragon.

This second book in the series is an absolute delight to read. Lots of action and I love how Spicy's character has evolved. There is time spent on Alma's back story which is interesting and there is no lack of action or conflict. The world itself is a dystopian fantasy which turns the whole idea of how goblins, dragons, and trolls fit into the human universe and/or vice versa.

I highly recommend both books one and two, but strongly suggest you read the first book in the series before this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Characters you'll grow to love as well as hate, a series you won't want to end.

Picks right up where book one left off ... the tale of Spicy just continues to grow and pick up speed. Truly an enjoyable read, make sure if you are new to the series, grab book one! Looking forward to book three and beyond, a wonderful twist to the hundreds of "generic" dystopian tales flooding the market these days. You can't help but find yourself growing attached to these characters ... Time now to continue the journey of Spicy the Goblin!

5.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable read
Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2019
This second book in the Goblin Reign series really requires reading the first book for maximum enjoyment as Spicy and 'friends' are back and the story picks up very close to the end of book one.

Author Gehrke does a fine job showcasing the struggles Spicy goes through and also showing events from the view of a human who's trying to puzzle out just what is going on. A goblin, a troll, and a dragon together? It just doesn't seem right! I have to say, I didn't find most of the humans at all likable. Maybe that's what I get for reading a book with a goblin hero!

I found this a fast, fun read and definitely want to return to Spicy's world and see what new twists happen. The story's pacing was smooth, and the descriptions apt.

This book ends in a way that isn't a cliffhanger, but enough is left open to have me looking forward to the next book.

I was given a copy of this book and have chosen to review it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tied for favorite book of the year! (Book 1 being the other favorite of the year)

Such a great story! The author really makes you care for the main character and some of the supporting characters are absolutely hilarious. You probably should read the first one first since the second one is directly tied to the first. The first book is essentially the origin story of Spicy. This is the journey Spicy must make to assist Fath (a dragon that Spicy is the apprentice to) as well as attempting a rescue of other members of his tribe. A lot of adventure, a decent amount of humor and a lot of heart. No romance, so if that is what you seek you need to look elsewhere. A really great story and I am looking forward to seeing where the author is going with the world he has created.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Second Book in the Goblin Reign Trilogy

Our little hero, Spicy, gets into more and more perilous situations in his effort to rescue the children who have been taken captive.

The world which author Gehrke has created is vivid and exciting and I found it hard to put the book down. I enjoyed it even more than the first book in this series, as Spicy travels to other regions and has further adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing series

This author does fantasy very well! This is the second book in the series and I agree with others that they really should be read in order to get to know the wonderful characters and understand the whole story. Book 2 delivers the same riveting read that #1 did and I am looking forward (always) for more from this author.

I received this book from the author and am voluntarily providing an honest review.
