Alright...to begin with, I don't recommend books to friends, family, neighbors or acquaintances. I usually find that when I do the recommendation comes back and bites me in the butt.
Secondly, I don't do reviews of books I've read. Other readers rarely care for the opinion of some old geezer in his 70's.
Thirdly (and I've said this before) I NEVER read romance novels. Why read about something that is a distant memory, at best.
And with that said...
I can't recommend this book strongly enough! It kept me on the edge of my seat at times, and at other moments had me reaching for the tissue box. Every question I had after reading the first two books of this series (I refuse to call it a trilogy, as I'm hoping for just one more book!) was answered. Every character - even ones you'd forgotten about - is dealt with in a logical way...bringing their part of the story to a logical conclusion.
I absolutely loved this book! just like I loved the first two ("All My Love, Detrick" and "You Are My Sunshine"). One thing to remember, though...be sure and read the first two before starting "The Promised Land".
Like I said, I don't do reviews and I don't recommend books...so this isn't a review, it's just a few thoughts concerning a great read! and about the recommendation...let's just say you won't be sorry if you pick this one up!
Oh, and about my not reading romance novels...that still holds true...EXCEPT FOR BOOKS BY ROBERTA KAGAN!

5.0 out of 5 stars So we never forget...

This series of one of the best I have ever read. I found the characters warm and loving. I felt their heartaches and heartbreaks as they so desperately try to reach Israel. As this is the third book of the series, these characters became so very important knowing they represent the millions of Jewish people who died during WW II, and suffered so much after, to find their homeland. I cried for Zofia and all she suffered, I believe more than any woman should ever have to suffer. I know this book is fiction but it is the truth as well. The sorrow and joy, the elation and heartache makes this and the other books of the series memorable reads...and so we never forget.

This is a long book in two parts: Book 1 and Book 2, but well worth the read!! I don't normally like books that switch from one character to another in each segment of the book however I see no other way the author could have told this story without doing so. I voted for this book to be published for Kindle and won a free copy. I do not know the author or anyone associated with the author. I just read an excerpt from the book and liked what I read. I have only read Book 1 and started Book 2...I can hardly wait to finish to see what happens to all of the characters. We see and hear so much about the holocaust but rarely get a glimpse of what the survivors endured during this horrible time in Jewish history. Also, the book details the Nazi cruelty to the Jews and other people even after the war ended. I would compare this book to Schindler's List and think it would make a great movie!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the whole series

I will start reading the last book in the series, "All My Love, Detrick" tonight. I've enjoyed all of the books so far, so I'm sure I will enjoy the last one too. The characters are so well established you feel as if you know them personally. You grieve with them and laugh with them. When I finish this last book, I'm going to start with book one again and read through all of them again just to make sure I didn't miss anything. Very enjoyable reading even if it does have some of the history of the atrocities that took place during the time periods the book covered. It's rather a wake up call too for all of us to keep on our toes and watch what is happening in this world we live in today. History repeats itself, and this could happen again. Great books if you enjoy reading history, romance, war and just life itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very emotional and heart-wrenching story.

Having read the previous books in this series, this certainly followed the generations. It pointed to the difficulties of this period in time and the consequences of decisions made. This was a very moving experience for me and I found myself needing to set the book down and cry. Only one negative: at a Jewish wedding, you almost certainly would not hear "Here Comes the Bride" by Richard Wagner, who was antisemitic and had an alliance with the Nazi party. I still recommend this book.

First off, I simply loved the series ... I read All My Love Detrick, You Are My Sunshine, and Promised Land over the last 8-10 days and found periods where I simply could not put the books down. Promised Land did bring the story together.

I have read literally dozens of Holocaust (Historical / Historical Fiction) books in the past few years and have to say I found the All My Love Detrick (3) Books to be one of the best ... in terms of story, historical accuracy, maintaining interest, solid continuance, character development, balance, etc.

I found editing errors in all three books ... however I found Promised Land to be the worst. With other reviewers seeing the editing in Books 1 and 2 as weak and this one as much better, I am assuming they saw very early editions and I read currently updated/corrected pieces. This is the only thing that kept me from giving a 5 star rating. Highly recommend..

Another compulsive page turner in the Detrick series. A totally compelling hard to put down read. It is very disturbing and hard to read in places but this story although fictional is based on fact and a must read. This awful period in our history must never be forgotten.

A well researched story built around real events in the history of Israel. Events which should never be forgotten or denied. I recommend this series of books to those who appreciate the miracle that is Israel.

Just finished this sequel to My Sunshine and I am sad it has come to an end. Fantastic story, this goes for both books, the characters are believable. It's just a thoroughly good read and suitable for both male and female readers. Roberta Kagan is definitely now one of my favorite others. These books are well on a par with the Exodus novel about the Jews and Israel.
