3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️Ok so this wasn’t one of A.E. Murphy finest. It wasn’t horrible, but usually I’m so sucked in by A.E. Murphy books that I can’t put them down and this book just didn’t have me doing that..It was actually on the boring side that I skimmed through some pages.I also didn’t get that electric of the charts chemistry feeling between her characters like I normally do.One thing I love about A.E. Murphy writing is how she makes you feel what her characters are going through and that even fell flat in this book.A.E. Murphy did give us her signature arrogant/cocky hero, because Sargent was for-sure a arrogant s.o.b. I liked how he was honest with Tempest about his feelings. Tempest was sassy at first, but at some point in the story that changed and she started getting a little sappy… I actually was hoping her and Maddox would’ve gotten together and not Sargent. I felt more chemistry between them then I did with Sargent. Which I’m super A.E Murphy didn’t change up the story on her readers with her famous twisted and shocking ending. I was kinda disappointed that she hadn’t.As for the storyline, like I said it was kinda boring and it just didn’t really keep my interest. I felt like parts that needed more information were rushed and parts that we really didn’t need were dragged out.Basically the story was them having sex and the hero not wanting to commit.Audiobook review: As for Keira Stevens I love her narrating and give her a 4 star, but Logan McAllister not so much. This was my first time listening to him and my last..not only does he Narrate horribly, but he sounds like he’s 80 years old! He Definitely was not a good choice for this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Sargent is ruined by the Tempest

SPOILER ALERT: I’ve found that I really like stories about taboo relationships between a woman and her boyfriends dad. Penelope Douglas’ Birthday Girl is the absolute best of this type of book. I rate this book, His Father as 3.5.
Tempest (h) aka Pest met Maddox aka Mad, while volunteering to help those in need, in other countries. They become best friends. When their time is up, Mad invites Pest to stay with him at his dad’s until her visa expires and she has to return to England. Mad plans to go with. Mad’s dad is Sargent Wolf (H). He loves his son and is excited about having him home. He’s a wealthy man that runs an international shipping company with his best friend Cassius. Sargent went through a horrible marriage/divorce from Mad’s mom, due to her drug addiction. It left a bitter taste in his mouth and he refuses to love or live with another woman again. Sargent is also bitter about having Pest in his house, even though it’s temporary. All he wants is to have his son to himself to spend time together since he was gone for a year.
Sargent can be an annoying cuss and gives Tempest a hard time, quite often. He has no real reason to dislike her. He doesn’t want her to lure Maddox away from home and he’s under the impression that they are more than friends. Sargent and Tempest are very attracted to each other and both try to hide it from Maddox, each other and Sargent friends. Long story short. They end up sleeping together, the son finds them in bed and is truly pissed. He’d already told his dad and his friend Devon to leave her alone. Dad’s friend and business partner, Cassius is the person that plans the humanitarian trips overseas and is also Mad’s godfather. He has no idea that Sargent’s ex wife was in over her head with drugs, which led him into a partnership with some very unsavory people. There’s lots of hidden drama in this book and to me it didn’t fit. It wasn’t cohesive and it annoyed me. When the crap hit the fan due to Maddox, Sargent tries to protect his son, his business and Pest. I finished the book, wondering why the author chose that particular scenario as the major issue in the story. Pest was a free spirit that rarely wore bras, had minimal clothing and for the “sake” of art, she loves drawing nudes, lol. She got naked when she was drunk or high because she believed she was “one with the Earth”, lol! However, Maddox never got an erection around her until his dad questioned him about the relationship he had with Pest. Then he said that he believed they would’ve gotten married in the future. I was confused. The ending was supposed to be happy but it felt anticlimactic to me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wanted the heroine to love the nice son not the horrible dad

I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as I thought I would with the taboo subject. The problem is the so called hero, Sargent. I did not like him and he never redeemed himself to me. He is incredibly self-centered even to the end. Everything has to revolve around what he wants and needs. This scene really says it all. He is talking to his best friend about Tempest and his son, Maddox. His friend asks, “What’re you gonna do if Maddox tells you he loves her and ask you to leave her?” Sargent answers, “What I always do when anybody asks me for anything...Pick the thing that makes me happiest and f&#% everyone else. I love Maddox but he snoozed.” Great guy, isn’t he? I actually really wish Tempest had loved Maddox who is a much nicer guy. I loved Maddox! He was actually perfect for her.

The rest of this review contains spoilers. The book seriously broke Chekhov’s gun principle when we have one random scene thrown in featuring a knife-welding peeping Tom who watches Tempest trying on underwear in her room. Completely odd, seemingly random scene that never ties back into anything. Maybe the author threw it in as a way for Sargent’s business associates (who happen to be bikers) to see Tempest in her underwear because they all go running to her room when she screams. I am still not sure. Then things really get weird when Murphy suddenly throws in the Russian mafia with a few murders and a near rape. Then we have the scene where Sargent is forced to have sex with the mafia boss’ daughter and Tempest finds out. Did not love that scene at all. At that point, I not only do not like the hero, but I was not loving the plot either.

Finally, we have the HFN ending without an epilogue. Sargent at very last minute finally decides that he does in fact love Tempest (although he did not convince me). He still does not want to ever get married again or have another kid. Tempest was ok with that but I was so not ok with it.

Maddox is his son, Tempest is Maddox's best friend. It would be so easy for her to fall in love with Maddox- but it's not what her heart wants and you cannot force chemistry or interest or anything where this is none. But with Sargent all those things come naturally if you get past his temperment of bitterness, stubborness and closed mindedness. If you get past his walls and all that.... Nope it's not love its....

I really enjoyed this spin on the older man, younger women, best friends dad trope. This one sent me through such emotions like a rollercoaster. And the mule like tendancies from Sargr- ugh!

I do feel bad for Maddox though, such a great guy and his sacrifices for his best friend who he's got unrequited love for. I hope he get's his HEA. He deserves it.

I'd even like to see Devon and like to see Cassius each get their HEAs. Stone too- he's a bad boy who surprisingly seems sweet. Even though this is a standalone I would love to see more of these characters and an epilogue for Sarge & Tempest- do they one day do it all? Marriage and kids- there's always adoption of an older child. He wouldn't be too old for that new beginning. Like a 12 year old or older.

This book was beautifully crafted that had me not wanting to put it down.

Well let’s start off with WOW I pre ordered this book when I new it was coming out because I love all this authors book the characters are always so realistic and enjoyable and beliverbal and let me tell you this book did not disappoint one bit

This books is about a girl named temp she’s been backpacking and meets Maddox and become good friends he emails is dad saying his bringing temp home to stay his father who is moody hot and rich ( all the things us lady’s like in our lead men) is not to inpressed when they arrive home

Sargent (Maddox dad) who’s hot and very rich takes an instant dislike to temp why well because she’s a female and he hates shearing his home with a female once bitten twice shy and al that but bites his tongue because he wants Maddox to stay and not leave with her he things mad and temp are a couple and she’s forbidden to him but can’t help to look because temp is a bit of a temptress and walks around with no bra on
This book has a bit of everything in it and I read it in one sitting I couldn’t put it down the author has smashed it I’m not a daddy taboo kind of reader but this is not like that I’d highly recommend it

This story is so gripping from start to finish, the characters and plot are well defined. Please say there is going to be a sequel I'll just die if I don't get to find out what happens next to Sarge and Pest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Relationship Drama between Father, Son, & the Girl..And! Russian Mobsters
Reviewed in Australia on September 26, 2020

This book started out your typical, son (Maddox) comes home from travelling the world, with girl bestie (Tempest). Dad (Sargent) hates her then finds her attractive, THEN they fall in lust with each other despite the twenty year age difference.

Son finds out (obvious) drama ensues, as son realises that .,SURPRISE!...he was in love with his bestie all along.
After taking himself of and having a sulk for a few weeks, he then comes back, does the mature thing, excepting his bestie & his Dads new happiness.

THEN, before you can say plot twist,... the Russian Mob, MC gangs and FBI get thrown into the mix through the dirtier side of Sargent Wolfs business.

Wow! Ya think you know where a story is heading through the first half of this book (melodrama between the three people involved) only to have the second half turn into a crime show.

Okay! I had a real problem with Tempest and Sargent in this book,
Especially when Maddox discovering their relationship and they were both like, “oh he’ll come around” yeah,... and if he didn’t tough because, these two were sooo wrapped up in each other they couldn’t care less.
Selfish AH..les

Annndd...the story ends with a typical HEA, (which felt a bit like an alternative ending as I expected Tempest to leave, but NO we had to get the freakin HEA...ugh!

So, this book was okay. Just okay.
All the side characters played their parts dutifully and keeping the main couple together while they went through all their angsty moments, so we got the ending that we saw was coming a mile off.
