5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story

This story draws you in from the first page. Strong writing skill and insightful investigation into historical events woven into a captivating novel presents E.A. Porter as a master storyteller.
This is an absorbing and often intense novel, which can be appreciated both by those with little knowledge of Native American history and by experts who should relish the allusions to fiction. A telling of the hardships of American pioneers as they travel across the great west, combined with emotional native encounters that include fear, love, hatred and loyalty. Rich characterization and superb direction compels this powerful, absorbing story.
Kudos to the author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kinda abrupt ending, left me kinda hanging for details

I really like the characters, the secondary characters as well as the primary ones. The only thing I would have liked was a little more at the ending, like an epilogue. The abrupt ending left me wanting to know more.

Unbelievable story line. Why would someone fall in love with the enemy that killed her husband & friends?
Then get captured by another enemy & be tolerant of his advances? I love Native American romance books but this was a disappointment.

4.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put the book down.

I have the book a 4.5 because I didn't like how it end. Like I said I couldn't put the book down; like how it was structured and how it kept the flow going. The ending was cut short. It left without what happen and a little of how they live afterwards.

What a beautiful love story! Two fires kept believing , she did what she had to do to keep her son ( Little Eagle & herself) safe. No matter what she went through. What an emotional roller coaster of a story. Looking forward to more books by this Author.

the story started out ok, but went on for so long it became boring, and then ended so abruptly I felt like I had wasted my time bothering to read it in the first place. wouldn't buy any more books by this author.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable storyline

Why would a woman on a wagon trail to the West with her husband go and have sex behind a rock with an Indian that just appeared in the prairie??? Absolutely ridiculous. The whole story is based around this event, and continues with more incredible events and historical inaccuracies.
Also, the kindle version is full of typos.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written and Great Story Line

I enjoyed reading the book. The style of writing was enjoyable although at times it would have been nice if it was a little more descriptive in details such as why and how one captive was killed and the heroine lived and the absolute terror a woman would have felt at the time of the story. The story line was great and only very rarely do I feel that the book should have had another 100 pages that would have made the book 5 star instead of four. I will probably read more books by this author. I am more of a western / thriller reader than romance reader which may have been a factor in my judgments.
