If you are looking for a book to familiarize yourself with terms used in the medical field, this book is a great budget buy. I personally purchased this book because I like learning new terms and it was cheap compared to most up to date medical books. This book is pretty straight-forward as far as what it entails. It covers over major body/skeletal systems, equipment, and related terms involved in the medical field/environment.This book also offer correct abbreviations and pronunciations for all terms you most likely would have difficulty with included in the book. This book in my opinion would serve as a basic study guide for medical students or anyone needing a guide for terminology in general. I rate this book 3.8 out of 5. The reason for this average score is because,I think this book should include pictures to go with all the terms. Pictures would definitely help encourage retention and engage the reader. It gets to the point and its a no fuss source for anyone willing to learn new information. I love how amazon provide soo many books for such a low price. This book is actually free through kindle unlimited if your interested. I purchased this book to support the author and I love dictionaries so, why not?

Very thorough book! Using it for my pre med courses. It has been very accurate, and has more words than the textbook that was required for my class.

1.0 out of 5 stars Found lots of errors in just the first 30 pages

If you're new to the medical field, skip this book. I'm a medical assistant, phlebotomist, former EMT and a 20-year Navy Corpsman who bought this book for my daughter who is entering the medical field. I've only reviewed the first 30 pages and can find a mistake on almost every page, whether it be wrong pronunciation, misspelling, or completely incorrect definitions. I've never left a negative review EVER on Amazon, but I felt compelled to make sure no one else wastes their time and money on this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Multiple spelling errors, poor explanations, and even poorer pronunciation guide
Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2019

When I bought the book, I was under the impression that it would be professional quality. However, I have found spelling errors (e.g. 'expisode' [s.v. 'ACLS'] when it should be 'episode'), confusing explanations (e.g. [s.v. 'aBP'] "The pressure may be analyzed with the systolic and diastolic numbers reflecting how the body responds to different functions regarding how the heart functions"), and overall poor formatting and grammar.
As of now, I don't know what would be a better option, but I'm returning the book because I want my money back. Don't even bother buying this edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very thorough

I'm getting ready to take a medical terminology class soon and wanted to get a head start and I'm so glad I got this book. It not only breaks down what each prefix and suffix is but it helps you pronounce them. Not to mention, it breaks it down a lot better than what the textbook I had to buy does. When it comes to the explaining what each word means, it gives a better detail of what word goes with what body part. While I don't know what to learn or to expect, I looked at the textbook I had to buy and ended up being more confused that I already was. With this book, when I use it with my textbook, it helps me get a better explanation of how to break it down and how to use it in the singular or plural form. This book is definitely a great supplement book to have. Will definitely be keeping this when I start taking more of my required medical classes that are coming up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice reference resource

This is a great reference book for looking up commonly used terms you may hear from your doctor. Rather than having to search it up on Google I now turn to this book to learn the basics when presented with an unfamiliar medical term. But keep in mind it is simply terms defined, not in depth knowledge. You will not find examples, symptoms, or treatment options - just what it is. It is presented in simple layman's terms so even the common non-medical person can understand. Definitely a big help for my household. It is a book that even my kids turn to when they have questions about what something is.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the best book to learn from

Doesn't always break down the word or explain how to pronounce the word. This is just a large book with lots, and a lots of words. It is not in textbook form, can't really learn how to spell medical terminology words from this book, there are better medical terminology books that you can really learn from.

This was a good book with good terminology of medical words. I am happy with what I learnt from reading the book. It did take me some time to read thru all of it but I am very happy with what I’ve studied. I used this book for my nursing class and the teacher thinks it’s a really good extra study book
