3.0 out of 5 starsCute story, terrible editing
Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2020
Another adorable mystic bayou tale. This one featuring Jillian's best friend. I found the mystery plotline way too simple and easy to figure out but the relationship between the love interests was sweet and adorable. My main issue was the spelling and grammar. Either this book was rushed, and left unedited or the editor was terrible at their job. There are glaring spelling errors everywhere. With that and a way too simplified plot I really can't give it full marks.
4.0 out of 5 starsDelightful & Unusual Selkie Paranormal Adventure. Do! Persevere Past the Glitches

Editing glitches caused an overall 3.5 rating which I am rounding up to a 4. I loved the story!
I am enjoying the Mystic Bayou paranormal series by Molly Harper and Selkies are a Girl’s Best Friend/#3 was no exception. SAAGBF can either be read as a standalone title or as part of the series. I recommend both SAAGBF and the series to anyone who enjoys light paranormal/fantasy suspense romances and/or HEAs, with the caveat below (last paragraph).
SAAGBF is about a developing relationship between a human woman, Sonja Fong/FMC and a Selkie/Merman shifter, Dr Will (think Jason Momoa). Will grew up locally, left town decades ago to earn a doctor’s degree, worked in the medical field elsewhere and has just returned to the Mystic Bayou community to open a family clinic treating the local shifters and human community. First circumstances and later danger throw Sonja and Dr Will together. Both Dr Will and Sonja have issues from the past they must work through to get their HEA. SAAGBF is a quick and enjoyable read.
I loved the creative Selkie description and the elements related to this particular water world. I could easily have devoured additional details and information immersed in Will’s underwater home, in fact an entire series built around this concept - but that’s just me. The only real negative for me in SAAGBF were the occasional typos, awkward word and sentence structure, misspellings, etc that a good beta team and/or a good editor should have caught and corrected, I would think. They pulled me from the story, caused me to stop and reread, and work to figure out what was probably intended. These errors were more frequent in the beginning of the book and considerably less as the story continued - so please don’t allow them to cause you to quit reading. I’m glad I worked past the glitches because I was truly delighted by the end.
SAAGBF is not a Clean read, but it’s close - at the 3/4 point the 2 main characters share an on-scene sexually intimate moment. It is brief in description and IMO closer to sweet than Highly Steamy (1.5 or 2, on 0 to 5 Sweet to Very Steamy scale). Violence is of PG movie content level, & profanity is minimal, if present at all. Readers offended by the aforementioned would be probably not enjoy this book.
This is a light read that will keep you very entertained. Sonya Fong is everyone 's girl Friday. She is the daughter of spies and is very able to do just about everything. Jillian is Sonya Boss, past room mate and is very pregnant with Bael's a dragon shifter baby which we cannot see because it is in a metal egg. Will is a 75 year and looks 35 old selkie Doctor who came home only to find out that there is a need for a Doctor. The rift is getting stronger, mutual attraction between Will and Sonya, and bad guys are about. Light romance, mystery, and urban fantasy make this a delightful book for all. Mild violence and sexual content.
5.0 out of 5 starsThis Series is Worth the Price and time to read

I was told The Mystic Bayou is a Audible series only? yet I have the first 4 in ebook format. the New book # 5 is only in audible. It is Very enjoyable my issue with the kindle version is at times who ever made it into the ebook format from the audible book did a half way job ! example is:
Sonja raised a brow. “Where is Cole? Not that I care much, but I’m hoping you put him under the jail.” “In the morgue,” said Sonja. “Ivy didn’t give me a lot of details, but she took care of it.” think it should have been. Jillian who answerd oops!
This series is cute and sometimes witty. The couples are quick to meet, have sex then fall in love. The bad guy was easy to spot early in the story. The editing is very bad. I might expect this many problems with a new author and their first book but not from someone with this much experience. It was distracting to the story.
I absolutely love how the story went, and I really hope there are more stories in the series after this, but I was really disappointed with the rushed job in the lack of proper copy-editing, which was very jarring and felt unprofessional. Missed words, sometimes the wrong words, missed or extraneous punctuation, even crappy formatting. These made the story hard to follow sometimes, and threw me out at key moments. I expected better of something I paid for.
I love the characters, Jillian, Back, Dani, Zeb, who have all had a book on their story. This one is on Sonja, human, and Will, a selkie. Will no ed away from Mystic Bayou and his bad memories of his parents. He feels the pull she he returns, years later. He meets Sonja, who is I initially put off by him since he throws her off her game, which never happens. He tries to get her to go out but they're having trouble navigating the waters
