I have been eagerly awaiting this book since I saw A.M. Lee was monster-mashing my two favorite families: The Grimlocks and the Mystic Caravan. Pitting Ainsling with Poet seemed a match made in Heaven, or at least Michigan. Throw in some Izzy? Yes, please. This book, while having some amusing bits, was not funny. It is probably her most serious yet. And, it was hauntingly, heartbreakingly brilliant. I knew Ms. Lee was an amazing author going in, but this felt so personal and touching. Please read this book, but not until you have the full flavor of these wonderfully developed families by reading up on their prior adventures. Bring lots of tissues for this one. Again, wow.
Mystic caravan is the first series I read by Ms. Lee and it remains my favorite. Although I started reading it in Kindle Unlimited I have since gone back and purchased all of them since they are worth reading more than once. I would have rated it higher than a 4 except for 2 problems. There are still many simple editing errors that I find frustrating, and the whole series needs a continuity editor as there are so many storylines that have drastically over the series.
The other thing contributing to a 4 rather than a 5 is that I didn't feel that the integration of the Reapers series just didn't integrate as well as the preceding book with the witches of the Midwest did. Of course the fact that I don't care for most of the Grim;ocks probably adds to that issue. I really don't find a family of entitled, spoiled brats very appealing.
All that being said I enjoyed the book a lot and was very glad that Poet got to reconnect with some people from her past and lay some ghosts that were haunting her.
If you have read Amanda's books before you know her style. This book is great. In my opinion you should read from beginning of series just so you know the backstory and understand the relationships of the characters. Great paranormal mystery with crazy characters thrown in the mix. There are some crossover characters from her other series but you dont necessarily need to have read those to enjoy this book but I do recommend reading them.
This was the best book ever in this series. I loved stopping and saying hi to a familiar family but I really got to see Poet at another level. What an amazing story! This author never lets me down. This book was AWESOME!
Poet is back in Detroit and after a crossover with the Witchy Winchester’s, we now have a crossover with the Grim Grimlocks! Amanda Lee does this seamlessly and expertly. Her mind is creative and her wit extraordinary. I I love the glimpses she provides inside and can’t wait till next time.
This time Poet is dealing with a banshee problem when she crosses with first Redmond, then the rest of the Grimlock clan. Girls who live on the street are missing and Poet dives into help solve the mystery, while crossing paths with some of the people from her time on the street. Closure is hard to come by and, sometimes, never found. Poet comes out at the end ready to move onto the next adventure. Can’t wait...
I love Amanda Lee's series. A Mystic Caravan series is one of my favorites next to Avery Shaw. However, I am getting tired of the books - as I did with the Wicked Witches and Grimlock series. I thought in the Freaky Reapers book we spent too much time coddling Poet and trying to pull her out of her self guilt was tiresome. I thought Ms. Lee could've developed the story line a little more, had more interaction with the Grimlocks or something else besides how guilty Poet felt for getting off the streets. Ms. Lee did this in the previous book also Freaky Witches when we used way too much time helping Kade get over the use of his new magic and his self confidence. There were many times in this book I just had to look up and let out this big "UGH!!!!!!! - Okay get on with it!!!!!!" The take down of the Banshee "head" was almost predictable and anti-climatic. I would like to see more character interaction with Nellie, Dolph, Naida, Nixie and Seth. But I guess Poet is the star and deserves all the attention. I hope Ms. Lee can pull something amazing for the next book or this series is going to go by the wayside for me like Bay, Thistle, Clove, Jerry and Aisling did - I do miss them but I really can't stand to go back in time for them anymore. Move forward already.
I absolutely love the Mystic Caravan series. With every book, the series just keeps getting better. The characters are amazing, I love how the characters from other series join in the story. Keep up the good work Amanda, you are a truly amazing Author.
This series is one of my favorites because of the quirky and interesting cast of characters! I never thought I would enjoy a series based in a circus, but it has quickly become a favorite of mine! This book held the usual intriguing mystery that kept you guessing right up until the end, but also had the element of Poet's history and her struggle to put it behind her. The mystery was wrapped up by the end, but there is enough of the overarching story to keep you coming back for the next! Can't wait for the next installment!
