5.0 out of 5 stars fantasy fiction for dog lovers
Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2019
If you are fan of fantasy, and an animal lover to boot, then this is definitely for you!
What is most evident throughout this novella is that the author has a passion for animals - it is there in the introduction and the details about the author at the end.
Coming to the story - I have not read the first book. But there was enough back story explained in this short snippet so that I was not confused. Humanoids who can transform into animals is quite a common premise in fantasy fiction these days. However, what is unique here is that these people transform into magnificent dogs (not wereanimals like wolves and tigers, which has been done to death now!) I found this interesting. The author had also put a lot of thought into tying up any lose ends.
There were actually only a few pages of this very short story - the rest was all promotional material for her other books. That was not too bad since it gave me the chance to check out what the main story line in books 1 and 2 of the Chained Gods series is like - and I think I will like to read the entire series!
My only problem was with the cover - it seemed like an erotica novel with a guy in chains!

5.0 out of 5 stars Short Story that serves as an overture to a fantasy world
Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2019
I had the opportunity to read the Knight's Chain before getting into any other stories in the series, and I certainly found it to be a compelling overture to what I presume are the ideas set forth in the main series. Granted, it's only a short work and therefore there are only hints at the world itself- dogs in our world bearing the souls of knights and other beings from a fantasy world and only having scant access to those memories. While this story is a straightforward escape tale, clearly designed to either provide some backstory to another book or serve as an introduction to the main series, I found it an enjoyable standalone escape story and am looking forward to checking out the main series.
