Aldous Steinbeck
1.0 out of 5 stars Not a religious based book but rather politically based.

After reading the far right wing political rant in the prologue, I chose to return the book without reading. If you have extreme right wing political leanings and believe Trump was sent by God to save America, this is your book. Otherwise, stay clear.

2.0 out of 5 stars Advisory from book 2

I was all set to read book 2 in this series. Then I read the "Advisory ". Wow! Talk about judgemental. 🙄 The authors saying that I would be jealous, self righteous and judgemental if i didn't absolutely agree with everything in the Carmen story line?? No one has the right to make that kind of call. So glad that I read that before purchasing book 2! Very disappointing. Insulting your readers is probably not the best way to go.

4.0 out of 5 stars Desperate for Book 2

I really enjoyed this book. when I first started it, I thought it was only the one book. As I neared the end, I prayed that there would be a second book because I didn't want to finish the story yet. So, went to Amazon and sure enough, there was a second book. I was so thrilled and bought it right away. I really loved the characters although I did find the Carmen character story very odd and not normal. Still, did enjoy it all. Loved all the other characters and the action. Felt satisfied with the story line. I was very lucky in that, just before starting this book, I had read another book on survival just prior and loved the characters and story line so much, that I "visually" in my mind was able to focus on the very same site of this story - so, in effect, it seemed so much like a continuation that I felt so satisfied in continuing what seems like an endless story. When you enjoy a book and you don't want it to end..... Will start the next book later. Loved it. I loved it so much because of the Christian roots.... so different from the zombies (give me a break!). TkU Dunaways for a really enjoyable book!

This book was outstanding. The characters were well developed and the storyline is right on. The book depicted what would happen when and if the US was attacked with an EMP weapon. Read, learn and heed. Prepare and save some more of everything.

Keeps you wondering what will happen next. Characters are believable. Gives some helpful practical advice for preparing ahead of a disaster. Keeps God in the lives of the characters. He is the only one who can get anyone through disasters.

Excellent book, what a joy to read. From the first page to the last, and especially the last sentence... Now for the Seco d book. This is what I want in a SHTF story. Clearly defined good guys, bad guys, love, romance, prepper tips, action heart ache. What more can you ask for?

3.0 out of 5 stars The Dunaway's Sorely Need a Professional Editor & Proofreader
Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2019

The need as titled was particularly poignant as a former editor & proofreader and drove me Ka-razy!

The scenario, as created, was once again out of the realm of possibility for most any other family to even begin to relate to, thus massively missing the stated goal of showing others the need and ways to prepare for a catastrophe.

Their additional goal to demonstrate how to rid oneself of jealousy did not require both a preface AND an "epitaph" as ones writing alone is to accomplish that, thus, the two extra commentaries come across as outright preaching.

I congratulate the Dunaway's on a very very fine first endeavor and encourage them to continue their writing and having it proofed.

I have read hundreds of books in this subject area and this excellent book is one of the best. I had no idea this was the authors first book. This excellent book depicts a very realistic story, with excellent characters and realistic plot.

The author's can be very proud of this excellent book. I am looking forward to the next episode of this excellent series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Realistic and engaging post apocalyptic fare - with potential to be even better

If you're into SHTF novels that are realistic, interesting and populated with relatable characters, then you're likely to enjoy this book. That authors are new, and this is their first effort, and it's surprising good. There are a few storylines on the go, and a level of realism that can sometimes be missing in this genre.

There is however a but, and it's an annoying one. The novel is written in the first person, and at one point the story line breaks off into a detailed description of one characters unrequited passion for a married man. Unfortunately it comes across as tha author living out a personal fantasy. Other reviewers must have commented on this as the author has inserted a note in the chapter compelling the reader to continue. Seriously - all that does is draw you out of the story. If I could make a respectful suggestion to the authors - hear the comments of your reviewers and rewrite this part of the novel. You could keep the thread but just tone it down, don't bang on and over justify it. The end result will be a much better story - and chances are you'll grow a bigger readership. I'd add that the storyline of the son was fantastic, and added a great depth.

Will I buy the sequel? You bet I will. Overall this is a good read.
