This may be the best book of the series! Why only four stars, then, you ask? Because of the lazy editing! Misspelled words, but mostly wrong words; errors have been mentioned before in reviews of this series.
But, If you can gloss over the errors, you’ll find this is a rockin’ who-done-it. Kate Wise is still a retired FBI Agent with an incredible record of case solves. Her annoying boss calls her in sometimes to work a new murder or, as in this story, a new murder maybe connected to an old unsolved case of Kate’s. She is still having problems balancing work, boyfriend, and baby granddaughter. DeMarco is her partner when she does get asked to work a case.
This storyline is nicely complex and hard for the reader to guess “who” and “why”. Kate’s boss is strange; he keeps pulling her off cases at the smallest provocation, or threatening to fire her, and frequently assumes she cannot do the job (because of her age?). His behavior is hard to understand as Kate was a STAR FBI Agent. Kate’s psychological makeup and thoughts on life add a lot to the enjoyment of the read!
