2.0 out of 5 starsSwing and a miss!

This book starts very strong, a riveting page-turner that eventually unravels before collapsing under its own weight. The good: Lucy is an extremely sympathetic character, and readers may find themselves wanting to console this poor woman who literally could be any face in the crowd. Also, the distinction and concurrence between reality and fantasy can in fact have readers scrambling to shift gears and keep up. Now, the bad: some of the characters and dialogue seem very contrived. Even some settings appear out-of-place, such as celebrity cocktail parties or exclusive behind-the-scenes access so frequent in stories similar to "The Crazy One" (and they are numerous and varied). It's almost as though the author was trying too hard to make them convincing, resulting in some parts seeming very static when a more fluid, natural approach could have made it a more engrossing experience for readers. Also.... this book is in need of copy editing. Granted, for the most part it's well-done, but some slight errors such as "take a deep breathe" should never be sent to press. All-in-all, it's a solid platform awash in a sea of mundanity.

This was a great book that I had a hard time putting down! Lucy is a somewhat socially awkward young adult who starts to imagine a much more glamorous, outgoing version of herself in a relationship with a famous rock star. The book goes back and forth between her real, boring life and her imagined life with a famous boyfriend. The transitions between the two are smooth and so well done that you just can't stop reading. I enjoyed the book from cover-to-cover and can't wait for another book to read by Rebecca Markus!
I’ve never read a book like this! The subject is unique and I was captivated by it all. I bought this yesterday and was sad when I couldn’t find time to finish it in one day! The ending is perfect. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to day dream again without thinking of this book. Well done Rebecca!
It was a good overall story but could've been 200 pages smaller with the same effect without missing out on anything but since I bought the book I had to painstakingly force myself through it and try to fast forward through the repetitive parts .

Is Lucy just a regular young girl fantasizing about her dream man, or she actually crazy? This books storyline goes from present to past, which I am normally not a fan of, but Rebecca Markus did a good job of keeping her readers intrigued. Can't wait to read more from this author!
