Their people beaten down, foul-mouthed fire mage Keira leads a squad wanting to strike back at their invaders. Her commander isn't quite so focused on revenge but more on survival.
Sparks fly (of course with a fire mage that's obvious) and this prequel novel to the Magelands series moves at a fast pace and introduces many characters.
While there are flashbacks, I'd like to have had a few more so I knew more about these various intriguing characters.
The book is fun, quick moving, and worth it.
WARNING: if you don't appreciate f-bombs, avoid this book. Keira is fluent in them.
