This is a short story, as noted in the "approximate page length". I don't have a lot of time for reading novels at this moment, but a short story on my porch while drinking coffee this morning was perfect.
The story was wonderfully bittersweet, and the characters were very compelling. It starts out with interesting people embroiled in instant conflict and a dash of humor. It hooks from the start.
No spoilers, but I will say that I thought the story moved a bit fast. But then to be fair, it IS a short, stand-alone story and there's a lot of ground to cover in a very short time. It kind of has to move fast.
The hero seemed particularly real in this story. I could see and hear him clearly in my mind. And the heroine was brave and kind and courageous. I like that.
I live in the south, and the history and references to familiar things made the read particularly interesting to me.
Looking forward to trying a longer title from this author when I'm done with my current project and have a little more time!
