4.0 out of 5 stars An intriguing read full of anticipation.

‘The Grimoire Prophecies’ is a YA paranormal romance story featuring Sophie Seymour, a high school senior who makes a likeable and engaging main character.

While some of Sophie’s challenges are specific to her own situation, others are highly relatable for most teens. As Sophie begins to discover that there is a lot more to the world around her than meets the eye, she is confronted by choices and decisions that she must make, regardless of how ill-equipped she feels to do so.

In the midst of her trying to reconcile the past and the present, Sophie’s senior school year is made far more interesting than anticipated by the arrival of a mysterious pair of twins. Readers with siblings will easily relate to the tension between Joshua and Ethan, which adds another layer of intrigue and complexity to the story.

As the story develops, the author infuses the narrative with a tantalising blend of anticipation and curiosity that draws the reader in and hooks them in the story, causing them to invest in Sophie’s dilemmas and develop hopes for her future and wellbeing.

The writing is good and the story is well paced. The end of the book leaves the reader keen for the next instalment in the series, and for answers to the questions that remain unresolved thus far.

This is a book with lots of appeal for readers of YA paranormal romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love Sophie!

This is a very emotionally charged young adult story about Sophie, a sixteen-year-old girl who, in the wake of the ultimate tragedy, must struggle to put her life back together. Add to that her strangely lucid nightmares, the arrival of two mysterious twins, Joshua and Ethan, and a cat that is not what it seems, and we now have a mystery for Sophie to explore.

Denver maintains a steady buildup of suspense, dropping subtle hints that all come together at the end to reveal the true nature of Sophie, the twins, and the world they inhabit.

The Grimoire Prophecies nicely sets up a series in which Sophie’s adventure has just begun. I would highly recommend this book to YA and magic fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magically Delicious

This is YA done right. Fast, gripping, with enough magic to mystify and enough realism to ground the story. There was a lovely blend of playful and dark that kept this in the right tone for a YA audience while being engaging to an adult reader as well.

I felt a real connection with Sophie as she struggled with the pain of loss and the nightmares haunting her dreams. When the brothers Joshua and Ethan add to her confusion things get intense. I loved the slow reveal of the nature of the brothers. I’m absolutely dying to know what comes next.

Highly recommend for fans of magic, witches, and YA reads.

This is a great YA novel with a pace that kept me interested and reading from beginning to end. I was surprised, and somewhat disappointed, at how quickly the story came to an end.

The story focuses on Sophie, a teenager who struggles with tragedy and nightmares. With the introduction of teenage male twins into her life, the plot get even more interesting. I started out liking Joshua, but it wasn't long before I realized that Ethan was the brother to root for.

The Grimoire Prophecies sets the reader up and tweaks enough interest to keep them wanting to continue on with the next book in the series.

This was a quick read that I was able to finish in two sittings, and I was captivated by Sophie and her story. I enjoyed following her as she dealt with the deaths of her parents and the emergence of two new mysterious students at her school. It was a mystery driven story that left me wondering what would happen in the second book.

4.0 out of 5 stars more needs to happen, but it was still an enjoyable read!

The grimoire prophecies is a typical YA book (which is not a bad thing at all). it's fairly clean, without too much cursing or too many sexual situations. I went through the book rapidly, and was pleased with the writing style and the MC's voice. I do think the style could have used some refinement, because it was a little too much like how someone talks rather than how someone writes, but that's okay with me. I also think that not enough actually happened in this story. it was a decent length, but it was inconclusive, because sophie learns something very important about herself (but doesn't actually do much with this knowledge). there are twin brothers in this story, and I found them to be much more interesting than the MC. (but that's just me, I sort of enjoy the secondary characters more oftentimes). I think more should have happened in this installment, but it's okay, because I still enjoyed reading it!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good story up to a point.

I liked this story up to a point and found the characterisation and point of view of the characters compelling and a real page turner, but I feel the ending has to be fleshed out more. The story is very strong when Sophie is in dreamland, but the conflict within the overall tale needs to be resolved when she is in that state. In fact, the writer needs to resolve the conflict both in Sophie's real world and in her dreamlike state and somehow merge whatever the resolution is in the dream world into what prevails in her real life. The ending with Ethan didn't work in my opinion and sort of left the reader feeling cheated. If the writer could address these final issues, I'd have no hesitation in giving it five stars.

A YA story that was captivating, thrilling, and magical. There are also a few parts that freaked me out, the nightmares were explained so vividly.

Sophie, an awkward teen, is going through a harrowing time, but when twins boys start in her school, her life is turned upside down and everything she knew is not what destiny has in store.

For readers of YA, you will love this. I can't wait for the next one.
