5.0 out of 5 stars Could Two Hearts Be Meant to Beat Only for Each Other

THE HEART OF HIM is my first book I've read by Katie Fox. The blurb drew me to want to read this book. The intriguing concept of two people meeting at a banquet in honor of the organ donors and their recipients.

Cassidy Porter had lost the love of her life sixteen months ago. Every day since her beloved Adam had been gone, has been a struggle just to function. She was drowning in tears and grief. She was sad all the time.

Samuel Copeland has spent the entire twenty-eight years of his life in fear. He had been diagnosed with a genetic heart condition. The only cure was a heart transplant. He knew his own mother, who suffered from heart problems, had passed before a heart became available. So when out of the blue he suddenly was given a new lease on life by being given a healthy heart, he was so grateful for a second chance. He knew someone's loved one had died in order for him to receive this second chance.

Cassidy and Samuel had a very rough beginning when they first met. But fate seemed destined to put them together. Was it even possible for a guy and a girl to just be friends? Because there was an attraction, but maybe it was too soon. A girl who was lost in her own grief and drowning in sorrow. If they were meant to be broken, maybe they could be beautifully broken together.

This is not an easy relationship with lots of road blocks in their way. Their heartache and pain had made them who they were. It had torn them down, forcing them to build themselves back up and be stronger than the people they were yesterday. Be stronger than the people they could be tomorrow. Could two hearts be meant to beat only for each other?

5.0 out of 5 stars “I Promise You, There is Beauty in the Broken.”

Overwhelmingly wonderful, poignantly heartfelt and deeply introspective are what come to mind in describing The Heart of Him. It’s been five days and seven other books since I’ve finished this one, and the broken characters, their insurmountable obstacles and their heart-rending emotions are still woven throughout my heart and mind. This is one that touches deeply, lingers long and causes one to question ideals and beliefs that were previously firmly cemented.

Sam's life work has been piecing together bits of broken glass to form something new, whole and beautiful. Never has he longed to be able to apply his talents more than to mend Cassi’s shattered heart. If only there weren’t so many roadblocks in his way. She’s still grieving the loss of the love of her life, a man whose generous gift of organ donation has given Sam a second chance, a man whose heart beats in Sam's chest. But Cassi sees a kindred spirit in Sam, a man who is alive but not really living.

Sam and Cassi are two characters who are hauntingly, beautifully broken, both mired in grief, loss and guilt. Cassi describes herself as “A girl who was lost in her own grief and drowning in sorrow . . . everything I was and the person I had become vanished. I was an empty shell of the person I used to be . . . I couldn’t find the shore. I was stuck in this vast ocean of guilt and sadness, and all I wanted was for someone to pull me from the water, to bring me back to dry land.”

Sam's situation is just as bleak, and has been since he lost his mother at age nine. Add to that a congenital heart problem and Sam has been drifting, unmoored in life, merely existing in shades of gray, rather than experiencing life in vibrant color. But Cassi, even in her pain and grief, brings color, and so much more, to Sam's life. He says about Cassi, “. . . she brought my boring world to life. She gave meaning where logic confused—hope where reality discouraged. She reminded me life was precious.” But no matter how close they become, how much they forgive the past and turn loose of the guilt, or how much their hearts beat for each other, Cassi may never forgive Sam once he reveals his deepest, darkest secret.

I can’t begin to explain to you the profound depth of emotion in this book. It ensnares the reader from the very first page, holding her captive as the story unfolds, a prisoner to the characters’ pain and loss, their quiet desperation and unfathomable grief. Bound by a fragile hope and a wary love, with a promise of redemption and an ultimate healing. Cassi and Sam completely, utterly overwhelmed my senses, devastated my heart, and stained my soul, only to restore my faith and leave me in awe of destiny, the human spirit and the heart's capacity for healing.

Their story is the polar opposite of what we’ve come to expect in contemporary romance writing, and I’ll warn you now, you won’t come away unscathed. But have no fear, this book is sooo worth it. This, that Cassi says about the human heart, gives a taste of what awaits you: “No matter how shattered they [hearts] appear, they can be recreated into something new—something just as stunning and equally breathtaking.” Prepare for your own heart to break and your soul to weep, and then hold tight as this exquisitely unique, poignantly beautiful journey carefully, tenderly knits you back together, all the better for having experienced it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A slow-moving, sweet and steamy story that's all about hearts. Three numb stars.

This book was originally published as a novella in 2016 and was better suited for that shorter version, because this rendition seemed too long for the plot. Cassi, grieving over the accidental death of Adam, her boyfriend, slowly falls in love with Sam, the recipient of Adam's donated heart. (No spoilers this time.)

I was intrigued by this unusual plot at first, but I eventually tired of the endless dialogue between Cassi and Sam, as well as their ongoing internal dialogue and introspection. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen besides the obligatory, long-drawn-out, steamy sex scenes. (I was surprised by Sam's big reveal, though. I didn't see that one coming!) I also didn't like the way Sam treated his father and Vanessa--his words were often spiteful and mean.

And speaking of words, this book was FULL of words describing the actions of hearts! Sam and Cassi's hearts shattered, thundered, whispered, pounded, stuttered, beat, broke, raced, constricted, pained, ached, stalled, throbbed, squeezed, desired, protested, thrummed, froze, rioted, thumped, clenched, fell, somersaulted, tripped, called, felt, leaped, climbed, slammed, fluttered, galloped, pulsed, jumped, screamed, hurt, knew, pitter-pattered, flipped, thudded, and even felt "numb." No wonder! That's a lot of frenetic activity for two hearts! The author must have a great thesaurus. Three stars overall.

This was a heartbreakingly wonderful read. This author did a great job! She has become one of the authors I anxiously await for her next release!

Cassi has gone through the unimaginable. As she is tying to move forward she meets Sam. Sam has his own trouble with trying to live his life. Will these two be able to mend their broken hearts? Can shattered and splintered hearts be mended?

This was a great read. I felt for each of the characters and what they went through. The twist at the end had me hurting for them both. But the author did a great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written, emotional read!

It feels like it's been a while since a book has gripped me like this; since I've been so consumed by the story unfolding before my eyes.

This book is everything I'd been waiting for.

I was moved by the beauty of the writing, the emotional storyline, and the realness of the characters.

Both main characters find themselves at a place in life where they're unsure of how to move forward. Cassi is lost- almost stuck- in her grief, while Sam has been given a second chance that he's not quite sure how to handle.

My. Gosh. Every doubt, each painful memory, the glimmers of hope, and the happiness that was experienced as Cass and Sam's relationship evolved- at each step of their emotional journey, I felt as though I were right there in the moment with them. I was connected to them and fully invested in their happiness.

Katie truly had me lost in the pages for the few short hours it took me to read the story. The Heart of Him is a novel I would not hesitate to read again myself, or recommend to others. I loved it.
If you want a heartwarming, emotional and angst-filled romance, you’ve found it right here.

This book is sure to rip the heart right out of your chest! My goodness, the emotions that swirled inside of me as I read this book I felt right down into my soul. This book is a sad but heartfelt read about losing someone but finding that it is ok to heal and move on, it is ok to be happy, it is ok to have a future. And you must let go of all the guilt you hold so you ca finally be free and move on and choose to live. Get the tissues ready because you will definitely need them!

Sam and Cassi’s story is different to a lot of others I have read. This is actually the first story I have read of it’s kind, and at first, I wasn’t sure how it was going to work. But Ms Fox has created a beautiful masterpiece with her words. She gripped me in and didn’t let go until the very end. The twists and turns caught me by surprise as well, making this a very emotional but interesting read.

Do you believe two hearts are destined to be together? This book will show you just how much two hearts are destined to be together. If you have not yet read anything from this author, I strongly, strongly suggest picking up a copy of any of her books and having a read. So grab your tissues and make yourself comfortable and read this heartfelt, amazing read.

Katie Fox is a new to me author and won't be my last! I was going to say that Cassidy and Samuel's journey was fate but l don't think that was the case here, these two are just meant to be together! How does your heart feel? My heart is full of happiness and my heart goes to these two! That epilogue was so good, The Heart Of Him is so worth the read!
